Chance the Rapper Has Some Issues With Batman's Extrajudicial Justice on 'SNL'

Chance the Rapper's SNL hosting gig went even better than expected, raising the question of whether or not there's anything this guy can't do. It might be SNL's best episode of the season, and almost every sketch was worth watching (Chance's turn as a clueless hockey reporter was good enough to suggest that if he ever tires of music, he could have a real career in the movies) but maybe the highlight was this parody of a charitable gala at Bruce Wayne's manor, in which the Dark Knight of Gotham City is forced to reckon with some of his implicit biases. Book Review: Cold-Case Christianity by J. Warner Wallace

Strengths of the Book From the very beginning of the book and throughout, Wallace's mastery of illustrations is on display.  Using actual stories from cases he has worked [the names changed of course], he uses what he has learned in the field to demonstrate to the reader how to objectively and rationally examine the evidence for God and the NT.  The result is a book that many times reads more like a crime novel than an apologetics work. This reviewer was also very impressed with Wallace's ability to explain what could be considered difficult topics to some in very plain language that virtually anyone can understand.  As someone who teaches apologetics, I know that many believers are sometimes intimated by the terms used in many of the typical arguments; however, not only does Wallace explain concepts such as abductive reasoning, circumstantial evidence and the nature of truth in easy-to-understand language, he further demonstrates to the reader that they already do this kind of thinking without even realizing it!  The brilliance of this is that the reader realizes that they don't have to learn a completely new way of thinking to evaluate the Christian worldview, but just apply what they already know to it's claims.

This Thanksgiving, Is God Thankful for You?

Particularly religious folks may bristle at the thought that the Lord appreciates what Christian individuals and churches do. They’re prone to turn simple gratitude into unnecessarily complex theology arguments. While it may sound spiritual to say that everything that happens is solely by God and that we can take no credit and deserve no appreciation for anything we do, it’s unbiblical and ungrateful. The reality is that we are God’s “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”b The word workmanship used by Paul denotes that we are God’s work of art or poem. Just as we do with works of art made by artists in this world, we can take enjoyment in, praise, and appreciate the work of art itself while giving ultimate credit to the artist who created it.

Jumping Over the Evangelism Wall | Cold Case Christianity

This is the wall most of us are afraid to jump. This is really what scares us. But, if we can just get started, God will take care of the rest. He’ll provide us with the words we need if we are willing to jump the wall. So, while the task of sharing your faith may seem daunting at times, dial it down to what really frightens you. I bet your wall is just like mine; it’s all about getting started. If we’re courageous enough to jump the first wall, we’ll find the conversations weren’t so scary after all. It turns out the evangelism wall isn’t all that tall after all.

Did Jesus Really Fulfill All the Prophecies About God's Messiah?

“Again, there are things that had to happen in a certain time frame before the second temple was destroyed,” Brown replied. “If those have not happened, then there can be no other potential candidate…. “[I]t’s not as if Yeshua did certain tactical things that had to happen and now has been absent for two thousand years. Instead, we see certain things unfolding just as expected, with his kingdom continuing to advance. Look at how many people came to worship the one true God in the twentieth century alone. This tells me the pace is accelerating. So the fulfillment of the first stage, as well as the ongoing fulfillment of those things that had to be ongoing, tells me that the final stage is clear.

The Most Repeated Command in the Bible

It’s not any of the prohibitions or warnings. It’s not about sex, or money, or power. The most repeated command in the Bible will probably surprise you: Be happy. God tells us more than anything else, in different ways, to “praise the Lord,” “do not be afraid,” “rejoice,” and “give thanks” — all of which are commands, in essence, to be happy.

Objections to the Existence of the Soul

As noted above, Parsons simply states these premises without defending them. But why, exactly, should it matter where a brute fact is situated in a chain of explanations? And why, if soul-body interaction is a brute fact, would it not be situated at the end of a long chain of satisfactory explanations? Surely such interaction would take place at a very fundamental (perhaps even quantum) level of physical reality, with the chain of explanations running up to a higher level, such as the brain itself. And why think that soul-body interaction must be a brute fact? Parsons does not interact with the dualistic arguments that try explain soul-body interaction (e.g., some argue that both the soul and brain have the property of being (or being able to be) conscious, and soul-body interaction occurs, not as a brute fact, but in virtue of the transference of consciousness from the soul to the brain). Thus, since Parsons does not defend his assertions, it is difficult to see why we should affirm the assertions. Parsons’ first objection to dualism, then, has little (if any) force.

Christmas Gone Viral - Full Movie (2017) HD

Each year one-third of the entire world population observes Christmas. Two billion people celebrate that a Child was born in a manger 2,000 years ago. They decorate their homes inside and out, put up Christmas lights, and exchange gifts. They send cards expressing the joy of the occasion, and sing popular Christmas carols, such as “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” Yet comparatively few truly understand the meaning of that famous hymn—that Jesus was “born that man no more may die.” “Christmas Gone Viral” is a unique and fascinating explanation of that wonderful truth. Special Christmas Offer: 10 DVDs for $15 (or $4.99 each), available at: http://store.livingwaters.com/christm... Your Screens Can Blind You: Finding Joy in the Unseen

But we are robbing ourselves of God-intended joy. We are hurting ourselves if we think that we need to physically see something in order for it to be real, lovely, and delightful. This isn’t how we were designed by God. We cannot physically see God the Father and his love and holiness, or Christ and how he is reigning over and loving this world right now, or the Holy Spirit and how he awakens and fuels us, or the everlastingness of glory that is to come. But each of these is full of deep joy — joy larger than our screens could display. Each, when contemplated, stirs up within us true delight.

Then we say, “God, help me to know what you want by giving me a desire one way or the other.” Some people don’t want to do that, because they think if they desire something, then God must be against it. That’s not true. God can use our Spirit-controlled desires to direct us. Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord , and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV). If you’re really trying to do what’s right in God’s eyes, then your desires are going to be in line.

A Universe From God: The True Origin of the Cosmos - Kindle edition by Robert Clifton Robinson. Religion & Spirituality Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

This book has been an invaluable institution toward completing my Master’s work at a Christian University. The author is a Christian American author and apologist. His pastoral experience spans over 14 years and two churches. He is the president and CEO of Teach the World Ministries. Robinson conveys that our Christian faith is supported by empirical and compelling evidence. This evidence is conveyed through scripture, scientific theory, and statements from famous scientists, physicists, etc. I would highly recommend this book to atheists questioning Christianity. It is an unparalleled. Reference for those seeking to apologize for Christianity. It is comprehensible to the non-scientist. Robinson takes a strong stance as to scripture being unrefuted, even in the presence of the laws of science and physics. He draws parallels between astronomy and scripture. He offers the view that the six days’ creation period described in Genesis could have consisted of billion-year increments. He describes “entropy,” a thermodynamic dynamic meaning the rate of heat loss associated with the degree of randomness or disorder in creation, as well as other trending topics.

Blessed Even in the Worst: How to Give Thanks in Every Circumstance

To be blessed is to be joined to Christ so securely that we have an ever-increasing sense that we are being kept by and for God. Because we are recipients of lavish grace, we can be honest with God and other people about our sin. Because the Lord is giving us peace, we can face the future confident that there is therefore now no condemnation for us because we are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). We can shout it for the world to hear, post it for the social media world to read, and nail it to every wall in our home: we are truly, deeply, eternally blessed in Christ.

The Truth about Suicide

We also feel conflicted because if it had been a murder we could rage against the murderer. But in this case, the murderer is the loved one, so we grieve him and rage against him at the same time, leaving us conflicted and exhausted. This anger is normal, and we shouldn’t try to shut it down. But we have to beware more self-destructive responses to a loss. Some grievers turn to alcohol or drug use, while others may actually try to reenact their loved one’s steps. They may stand holding a gun looking in the mirror or on a balcony ledge, trying to figure out what was going on in their mind. We need to be careful of these self-destructive responses and have our community keep an eye on us.

Does God Decree Events He Doesn’t Want to Happen?

Now, Ethan is simply making explicit the fact that sometimes the Bible talks about God desiring something that, in fact, he does not decree to happen. For example, he refers to 1 Timothy 2:4. This is a very famous text. Paul says, “[God] desires all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.” Yet in 2 Timothy Paul says, “[The Lord’s servant should be] correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:25–26).

We Don't Hold the Truth, The Truth Holds Us

Arrogance in action: That’s how a lot of people view Christianity these days. “ Who are you to claim you’ve got the one truth for everyone?” Their charge against us would be right — if we really thought our truth was true for everyone. Then we would be arrogant indeed. But we don’t. In fact, when we say, “I know the truth,” we’re taking a stance of humility.

What Does the Lord Require of You?

Micah’s most famous verse appears at first glance as a call to get our act together. “Act,” “love,” and “walk”: This famed triad is a softball toss for sermon outlines and a second passing of the offering plate. But on second glance, Micah’s appeal is better viewed as a plea of affection and devotion from Israel’s God. Micah 6:8 is a lover’s call. It is a lover’s plea in a courtroom drama.

2 Scripture passages every pastor needs today (and every day)

That precious promise drives away anxiety and discouragement on those days when nothing seems to be happening in ministry, when I’m sowing but nothing seems to be growing. If I have been faithful, I can plant the seed and rest easy in Christ, knowing his Spirit will cause the seed to germinate and take root in human hearts, in soil made good by the Holy Spirit (see Mark 4:1-9). I need not pressure the people, harangue them, cajole them, or wring my hands in perplexity. This parable comforts me with the truth Luther understood, the truth that was the catalyst for one of the greatest revivals in church history 500 years ago: “The Word did everything, I did nothing.” Indeed.

Sexual Misconduct at Church

According to Frank Sommerville, an attorney and CPA who specializes in church law and tax, the simple legal definition of sexual harassment is "unwelcome attention due to one's gender." "Closely related to this is the term 'hostile work environment,' which occurs when unwelcome comments or conduct based on sex, race, or other legally protected characteristics unreasonably interferes with an employee's work performance or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment," Sommerville explains. The survey shows a relatively low number of occurrences of sexual harassment in churches or ministry workplaces. Only 2 percent of respondents who work in a church or ministry setting say their employment was contingent upon dates or sexual favors. This number goes up sharply in the secular world: 22 percent of women reported "quid pro quo" harassment.

Hated but Helped by | November 21, 2017

Some argue that the history of Western philosophy can primarily be summed up as a footnote to the thought of Plato. We can say that the entire Bible shows a similar connection to Genesis 3:15, which announces the enmity between the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent. In John 15:18-27, and in connection to this ongoing conflict, Jesus recognizes that the time has come for the climactic battle between the two seeds or kingdoms, one that would take Him to the cross. However, His very death would crush the one who has the power of death, the devil. In this lesson, Dr. Ferguson shows us from this passage how the disciples are caught up in the war. They too will be hated by the world, yet also helped by the One who overcomes the world.
