Watch Rockapella Kind of 'Reunite' to Discuss ‘Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego’

If you were a kid in the '90s, finding Carmen Sandiego was even more important than finding Waldo. And you couldn't begin your journey around the world without first watching the a capella legends Rockapella sing the show's iconic theme song. Now 25 years later, the group got back together and talked about their absolutely, no-doubt most important work ever.

Dr. R. Albert Mohler examines how this transformation occurred, revealing the underlying cultural shifts behind this revolution: the acceptance of divorce culture, liberation of sex from reproduction, the prevalence of heterosexual cohabitation, the normalization of homosexuality, and the rise of the transgender movement. He then offers a deep look at how the Bible and Christian moral tradition provide a comprehensive understanding upon which Christians can build their personal lives, their marriages, church ministry, and cultural engagement.

Ben Carson Wants Almost All Abortion to Be Illegal

GOP presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson wants to see almost all abortions be made illegal. In an interview with NBC’s Meet the Press , Carson—who is closely trailing Donald Trump in most polls —said that he would “love” to see Roe vs. Wade overturned. The 1973 Supreme Court decision ultimately led to the legalization of abortion throughout the United States. He said that he would like prohibitions against abortions to be sweeping, and not include exceptions for rape and abortion, explaining, “I would not be in favor of killing a baby because the baby came about in that way.” He did said that in the “extraordinarily rare situation” in which an abortion must take place to potentially save the life of the mother, “I believe there’s room to discuss that.”

Why Aren't Millennials Having Sex Anymore?

This is why sexual revolutions always turn out so boring. This is why the sterile, casual, condom-clad vision of sex in our culture is so dull. This is why pornography is so numbing to the soul. It is because, in the search for sexual excitement, men and women are not really looking for biochemical sensations or the responses of nerve endings. And, in fact, they are not ultimately even looking for each other. They are searching desperately, not for mere sex, but for that to which sex points–something they know exists but they just can’t identify. … They are looking to be part of an all-encompassing cosmic mystery. They are looking for a love that is stronger than death.

We Cannot Be Silent

In combating pantheistic neo-paganism, Christians mustn’t neglect the vital resource of biblical creation. To be clear, Mohler is far from neglecting the importance of creation in this debate. When we grasp the role of pantheistic thinking today, we realize the secularist assault on God’s moral authority has morphed into a pagan onslaught against God’s existence as Creator. Mohler is exactly right in urging Christians to vigorously defend Christian morality while extending the grace of Christian salvation to a broken and confused world. Yet, as Mohler himself often urges, a gospel-centered evangelicalism must also awaken to the decisive need for a fully biblical worldview. Yes, we must defend Christian morality with the New Testament’s witness of grace and truth in Christ. But the place we must take our stand before an increasingly barbarian culture is on Scripture’s very first verse: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Microscopes Make the World Larger

Rather, we must augment our big picture perspectives and high speed, high volume approaches with patient, slow-paced, careful, prolonged observation, examination, and reflection as well as time-intensive discussion. These are things that reveal glories that we’ll never see merely through our telescopes alone. They can function as microscopes, helping us see far more wonders right around us in things we thought we knew, things we’re used to, things we have become bored with. These microscopes help enlarge our world.

7 Ways Women Can Grow in Studying and Teaching Scripture without Seminary

Of course, this doesn’t mean we’re completely on our own in terms of theological and biblical training; it just means we haven’t had a great deal of formal training in an educational institution. Instead, we’ve sought out ways to learn on our own. And there are so many great resources for us to grow in our understanding of Scripture and theological truth without attending seminary (though I hope you won’t rule it out!).

A Call to Cultural Conformity. Those revisions are recorded in Kurek’s book The Cross and the Closet . Released in October 2012 to coincide with National Coming Out Day, it chronicles his journey from disapproval to affirmation of homosexuality. Predictably, the author received rave reviews from homosexual and pro-homosexual leaders, hailing his courage for living as a gay among gays, and for attempting to educate conservative Christians on this critical issue. But the book’s aim is to elicit more than kudos from the already convinced. Kurek also hopes to change the minds of those who consider homosexuality a sin, a hope largely based on what he learned during his undercover stint as a gay man, and he desires those who openly object to homosexuality to have a conversion of thought similar to his own.

The Old Me Made New

His prayer does not end with forgiveness (Psalm 51:1), but with newness. He goes further than forgiveness and asks for more, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. . . . Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:7, 10). God, I want to change. I want to love what’s right and good. I want to live differently. I want to love like you love. By the same grace that you rescued me from hell, please make me new.

5 Keys to Surviving a Breakup

Getting over things is easy, or keeping busy also, but feeling, identifying the emotion and dealing with why you feel that way is difficult and requires maturity and maturity as a Christian. God did say we should make peace with each other, be kind, merciful, compassionate, slow to anger and most of all loving. Revelation Chapter 3 says the church will reject things that would otherwise make them Godly. Your heart and mind needs to be renewed by God, therefore the mature approach is to ask for forgiveness where you've hurt someone. Figure out why you acted like you did. Don't run away from healing and healing your ex, be an example for the world. However if your ex was abusive it's often best to stay away from such people.

Justified by Faith Alone: New from R.C. Sproul

Faith alone is the foundational answer to the question, “What must I do to be saved?” The doctrine of justification by faith alone is at the center of Reformation theology, and remains critical for all believers today. This doctrine is continually under assault, yet without it, there is no gospel. In this lecture series, Dr. Sproul explores the doctrine of justification historically and theologically. He carefully defines each term in the phrase “justification by faith alone” while pointing to the imputation of a perfect righteousness found only in Jesus Christ. For a limited time, this series is available for a gift of any amount at http://RYMOffer.com . Offer expires 10/30/15. US & Canada only.

Let’s Be Clear About What Real Christian Persecution Looks Like

Let’s cut to the chase Mr. Carey. The societal definition of family and marriage that have stood for millennium has been redefined by a court using current culture as the standard for redefining morality and interpreting the constitution as opposed to using the moral law standard that our founders used to frame the declaration of independence, the constitution and the bill of rights. Previous to redefining of marriage, for the most part law in our country was consistent with moral law and now it is not. Suddenly a whole group of people are at odds with the law (if they hold their spiritual convictions as true and their guide for daily life.) The results of this redefining is that people working in the public sector and who have the duty to discharge the law, and who hold these truths as the standard for every aspect of daily life, suddenly find themselves having to decide between that moral standard or the authority of the legal opinion of the court.

How Paul Ryan Went From Wingnut to RINO

The point here is that Paul Ryan hasn’t really changed; in a very short span of time, the conservative movement has dramatically shifted in a populist direction, and that means embracing positions on trade, taxes, and entitlements that were thought of as rather left-wing just a few years ago. The story here is but a microcosm of a larger struggle for the future of the GOP (a story I tell in much greater detail in my upcoming book, Too Dumb to Fail .)

How to Rest for Real

Everyone had different opinions. Frustrated, I turned to the Bible, at 5 a.m. as the sun was beginning to peek up and my coffee was brewing. Psalm 62 jumped out at me instantly: “My soul finds rest in God alone.” Maybe part of the problem is that the things we’re choosing to relax with aren’t giving us true rest. Maybe we don’t have to always stay late after events, chatting and eating snacks and glancing at our iPhones. Maybe we don’t have to join every small group, Bible study, prayer circle, but instead need to make sure we’re making time for our relationship with the One who created time. Maybe the secret lies in just knowing ourselves, knowing our own limits and our own intentions.

Best Mere Christianity Quotes

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

The Apologers

[1] If we define Christian in a sociological grouping rather than a theological grouping then Jehovah’s Witness and Mormonism would be classified here like as what was done in the Pew research survey link. For this argument they are not classified that way. Taking that, they are not in the main argument because even if we combine Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons then they are less then 1% of the world religious population.  For the sake of this argument they do not satisfy the resolution criterion because they can receive new prophecies that can invalidate the old. This cannot lead to any satisfactory end due to the fact that it is possible that their god is mutable and can change his mind – no resolution is possible if that is the case.

If God Is in Control, Why Does Bad Stuff Keep Happening?

We live in a world where you can’t simply look at the evidence and say, “There you are, there is a good God, everything’s OK.” That’s why the good news of Jesus is that in the middle of this confusing world, with so much beauty but also so much sorrow, what God has done in Jesus launches a project, which says “Yes, the sorrow is real, but God has dealt with it and is dealing with it. The beauty and power of creation are real. God is going to do the new thing, for which those are signposts.”

3 Prayers We Need to Stop Saying

BE WITH US I think this point is a good reminder for us all that God is omnipresent. Though it really depends on the person/people what they mean when they pray this prayer. For me, praying this prayer doesn't mean that God isn't there (and even if it is, I'm sure most of us Christians has had times when we feel that God has left us/ we can't feel his presence and can only lean on prayers like this as our hope to restore our relationship with Him), but these prayers can also be a way of inviting Him into our midst. It's just a way of INTENTIONALLY asking Him to be with us (could be an event or a group) so that it's like we 'allow' Him to work through us (not saying that He can't work through us when we don't pray this prayer, but its kind of like asking God to do something in that place.

The Power of Mob Evangelism

The next time they met, Brady started reading through the gospel of Mark with Walter. And he began introducing him to various members of his church, who introduced him to yet other Christian friends. One of those new friends sang a song on Easter Sunday about Christ’s resurrection that Walter couldn’t shake. At the end of a long run a few weeks later, with the lyrics of “Jesus Is Alive!” repeating through his head, Walter suddenly realized he believed Jesus was alive. On his knees, he trusted in Christ. By the time he was baptized, dozens in the church already knew his story.

A Response to the Arguments for "Covenant Child Baptism"

Paul is talking about the situation of believers who have unbelieving spouses. Paul says that the unbelieving, unbaptized spouse has a sanctifying covering due to the marriage bond (a new question requiring a new answer), and then backs this up with reference to the (uncontroversial and already understood) state of their own children; the unbelieving, unbaptized spouse has a sanctifying just as your children (though likewise unbelieving and unbaptized) are also covered by God’s grace. Now, if those children had been saved and baptized, then their status would be the same as the rest of the community, and in no way analogous to the unbelieving spouse. Note that Paul also accepts the possibility that the still unbelieving spouse may decide to leave, that is, the sanctification imparted by the marriage does not as such save them or make them a candidate for baptism. He hopes that they will come to be saved (verse 16), but there is no guarantee, or impartation of that status in the meantime – see 1 Peter 3:1 for a similar thought (1 Peter 3:1 Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives).

Rise early and be alone with God: wise counsel from an old divine

What is the best time of day to pray and meditate on the Word of God? For me, the best time is the early morning. With four young children in the house, all of whom are usually still sleeping this is the only quiet time in my home. This time also has the advantage of beginning your day by lashing your heart to the mast that is Christ. This was the practice of many of the old divines from Calvin to Edwards and Spurgeon.

Ask Pastor John on the App Store

My boyfriend at the time (now husband) spoke very highly of Pastor John Piper's teaching. I wanted to like listening to the sermons, but I was so distrusting at first and couldn't really listen to any of them.. The 'Ask Pastor John' app is where I learned how Jesus-loving, Gospel-centered, humble and honest Pastor John and the teaching staff at Desiring God are. I mean, the teaching and hard questions answered not only helped me trust these people and the teaching coming from them but led me to grow and love the Word of God so much more. I have days when I cook and clean for hours crying and praying and praising God while listening to Ask Pastor John or sermons of his on Desiring God. The Gibbs household has been so blessed and changed through the hearing of your preaching! Pastor John, if you read this, thank you! Thank you for working for our joy, for standing under the Word and not over it, and for being so sensitive to the guidance of the Lord by His Spirit. We are forever family and look forward to the day when we will all be standing before our King, together.

11 Steps to Memorizing an Entire Book of the Bible

Learn it well enough that you can write it out or type it out word-for-word without any mistakes. Then record yourself reciting it audibly ten times. Listen to your recordings as you go so that you correct yourself. Don’t count a mistake as one of your ten times. When using my laptop while walking on a treadmill , I use my laptop’s media player to record myself and a calculator to keep track of how many times I’ve correctly recited the passage. When using my phone while pacing inside or walking outside, I record myself on my phone, and I use a tally-counter app to track how many times I’ve correctly recited the passage. You can take screenshots of the phrased text you’re memorizing so that you can view it on your phone, or you can print it off. I prefer to use screenshots on my phone when I’m first learning short passages, and I prefer paper when I’m working on solidifying long passages.

The Gospel in a Hostile World

send to a friend #2  Posted by drew  |  Monday, October 26, 2015 at 6:29 AM Is it fear of being perceived as intolerant or unloving that causes masses to conform to world? If men like Tozer, Graham, Larkin, and Criswell estimated that about 75% of people attending church were not saved, wouldn't same apply inside churches? (see recent series of false teachers)? The world seems to re-define terms like Truth and Love ...much like hippies of 60's. Consider quote by Adrian Rogers "It is better to be DIVIDED by TRUTH than to be UNITED IN ERROR. It is better to SPEAK THE TRUTH that HURTS and then HEALS, than FALSEHOOD that COMFORTS and then KILLS. Let me tell you something, friend, it is NOT LOVE and it is NOT FRIENDSHIP if we FAIL to declare the WHOLE COUNSEL OF GOD. It is better to be HATED for telling the TRUTH, than to be LOVED for TELLING A LIE.

World Health Organization Says Processed Meats Cause Cancer

We have some bad news for bacon lovers and individuals that consume a high quantity of hot dogs. A new report from the World Health Organization claims that certain kinds of processed red meats— things like bacon, sausage and hot dogs—cause cancer. They also found a link between all red meats and cancer. Though a panel of health experts from around the world was not unanimous, the report’s ultimate findings were not encouraging if your name is Ron Swanson. The panel cited “substantial epidemiological data showing a positive association between consumption of red meat and colorectal cancer and the strong mechanistic evidence.” Obviously, the news has not gone over well with the meat industry. An executive from the Cattlemen’s Beef Association told The Washington Post : “We simply don’t think the evidence support any causal link between any red meat and any type of cancer.”

Faithful Thinkers: Book Review: Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off

Introduction How did life begin? This question has perplexed humanity for centuries. Some people believe that it came along by natural processes. Others believe that a divine Designer is behind it all. These two options go head-to-head, tested against the latest scientific research in the book "Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off" ( hardcover ,  Kindle , Supplemental Site ) by astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross and biochemist Dr. Fazale Rana. The book is divided into three sections, seventeen chapters, and 298 pages (including notes and appendices). This review provides a chapter-by-chapter summary of the contents of the book, but it must not be accepted as a replacement for reading the book, itself. The review will conclude with my thoughts and recommendation. Drs. Ross and Rana take the position that the origin of life is by divine design. To scientifically test their hypothesis, they present their model, competing models, and the latest research; they then compare the predictions of the models to the research to build their case. Before examining the current state of origins research, it is a good idea to take a quick look at the events that led to the current state.

A Sitcom About Living Biblically Is in Development

What would it be like to literally live as biblically as possible for an entire year? The premise will soon be explored in a TV comedy from the new production company founded by The Big Bang Theory ’s Johnny Galecki (Leonard). The show is based on a 2007 experiment from author A.J. Jacobs—chronicled in his book A Year of Living Biblically , as well as a RELEVANT cover story —in which the agnostic humor writer attempted to follow every command of the Bible as literally as possible for 365 consecutive days. By “literally as possible,” we do mean as literally as possible: This includes dressing, eating, talking, grooming and socializing only as the Bible specifies. There’s no word yet on a release date for the show.

6 Devotionals You Should Read Next

How do I forgive someone who doesn't think she did anything wrong? Or who doesn't care? Why would I forgive someone who doesn't even think she needs to be forgiven? Because I want my neck and my back muscles to stop hurting. Because I want to sleep, instead of having endless  imaginary conversations. Because I want my mind back. Because I want my life back. So I let her off the hook. I let her off once, to start, and felt pretty good about myself, until someone brought up her name at lunch, and then I got mad all over again, which threw me for a loop. I forgave her. Why am I still so mad at her? I felt like I bought expensive wrinkle cream and woke up more wrinkly than ever. I wanted my money back. Forgiveness is both a decision and a process. It's hard enough to choose to forgive in the first place, and then we have to do it again. And again. And again. And again.

What Spiritual Growth Really Looks Like

I use the illustration of a college student having his or her tuition fees, books and meals paid for. However, nobody is going to go the cafe and get your food for you. It’s already made available to you, but you gotta go, and then use your meal ticket that’s been paid for and go in, and if you want some cereal, you’ve got to pull the lever that releases the cereal into the bowl. Sanctification is the same way. Everything’s already provided for us, the issue is we have to connect to the ways in which God releases the things He has for us in relation to spiritual growth.

Since everything in the universe is determined by the laws of physics, that means we are as well. Our thoughts, beliefs, behaviors, everything. Free will is just an illusion.
