This Video of Apollo Space Mission Photos Is the What Your Afternoon Needs

Recently, more than 12,000 photos from NASA’s various Apollo missions became public domain. Not long after, space enthusiast Kipp Teague gathered the photos in the Project Apollo Archive Flickr account. According to CNN, the collection spans from Apollo 7, the first manned test flight in 1968, through Apollo 17, the program's final lunar mission in 1972. And then, because of the Internet, a videographer took some of the photos and brought them to life in this short video. It’s just the perspective your Monday afternoon needs.

Information Enigma

Information drives the development of life. But what is the source of that information? Could it have been produced by an unguided Darwinian process? Or did it require intelligent design? The Information Enigma is a fascinating 21-minute documentary that probes the mystery of biological information, the challenge it poses to orthodox Darwinian theory, and the reason it points to intelligent design. The video features molecular biologist Douglas Axe and Stephen Meyer, author of the books Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt.

I’m often asked, “How can a service be both a worship service and place for seekers to experience Jesus?”...

What I Learned from My Gay Co-Worker

I have a friend (we’ll call him Mark) who can quote more Scripture than many pastors and rarely misses a worship service at his church. And he’s no passive participant, either. He often peppers his Facebook page with testimonials about the “Spirit’s work” during Sunday services. But on Monday mornings, back at work, Mark sports another testimony. With equal passion, Mark will plainly tell you he’s gay.

Reject the World’s Whitewashed Words for Evil

A colonoscopy is a much better term than a crude description of the procedure, but the formal medical term doesn’t change the reality of what is taking place: Your doctor is taking an intimate and invasive look into your large intestine. The use of the medical term doesn’t make it any easier to stomach. Planned Parenthood’s harvesting of “products of conception” doesn’t make it any less the systematic killing of unborn children and the subsequent packaging of the bodies in order to turn a profit.

We invite you to the conference for women, but not all about women. It's a gathering of women around the Word of God. To this third TGC Women's Conference, we come joyfully but soberly, knowing that suffering meets us at every hand, right at home and all across the globe. What better book for us in 2016 than 1 Peter—packed with gospel perspective on our short lives. It's a little epistle, but it gives us a big view of who we are in Christ and how we are to live as redeemed sojourners in this world. How do we stand firm in God's true grace? How do we offer a strong shining witness to Jesus Christ even in the midst of fiery trials? Peter points us insistently to the Lord Jesus, to his suffering on our behalf, and to the resurrection life he makes possible for those who believe in him. At TGCW16 we won't be getting away from real life; we will be seeing it clearly, in light of gospel help and hope. By God's grace, we will go away better prepared to live and share resurrection life, in a world of suffering.

Here's Why Cities Are Changing Today to ‘Indigenous Peoples Day’

We also recognize that our Nation is built upon the homelands and villages of the Indigenous Peoples of this region, without whom sacrifices were made so that our Nation was made possible. We acknowledge that in our forced removal to these lands that we were made to occupy tribal territories of the original occupants who were also displaced to other regions to make room for us. Indigenous Peoples’ Day shall be used to reflect upon the ongoing struggles of Indigenous People, and to celebrate the thriving culture and value that Indigenous nations add to our region.

Letter From Hank - Christian Research Institute

October 2015 Dear CRI Partner: She was the top Christian student in her high school. In fact, she won several scholarships from Christian organizations to use at the college of her choice. She decided on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill because she wanted to win the campus for Christ. Yet after only four weeks, her shocked Marine Corps father received a devastating phone call: “Dad, I don’t believe in God anymore.”

What We Can Learn from the NFL’s Domestic Violence Problem

Most official cases of domestic abuse involving famous athletes make the news and get posted in public databases for all to see. But that’s far from the norm in this country. The vast majority of abuse incidents remain behind closed doors, secrets that victims are afraid to confess, discuss, or bring to authorities. Those who suffer at the hands of their partners have stories just as harrowing, but even their close friends might not know it.

Hollywood Reboots We’d Actually Like to See

Let's be honest: most of these look like leftovers. But we can help fix the problem. Here are eight more properties we’d like to see brought into 2015 and beyond. Hollywood, your mission is clear.

Just Try Something: A Dispatch from the New York Film Festival

It’s hard to find ways to restate the essence of the most common movie review I have to write: “It’s fine, I guess.” Marvel may be everyone’s favorite whipping boy these days, but that’s because they keep turning out passably watchable, increasingly forgettable films that we all keep seeing anyhow. In many corners of Hollywood, that’s the M.O.—figure out what people will pay to see and then just make a lot of it. It's an industry. There are bottom lines and profits to be considered. Romantic comedies did it for a long time, as did movie musicals, and action thrillers, and the genre I think of as “tangentially Christmasy movies,” and the faith-based film industry seems to have gotten on board, too.

God is never in a hurry. He’s eternal! He is watching; he is working. He is seeing how and when you will trust him as you’re waiting. You’re saying, “When, Lord? When is it going to happen?” And God’s saying, “You can trust me with this.”

Renewing Your Mind | Regeneration: A Sovereign Act | October 12, 2015

Who is the Holy Spirit and what is His role in redemption? These questions have been especially important since the rise of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements in the last century. Along with a renewed interest in the person and work of the Holy Spirit has come increased confusion. In this series, R.C. Sproul cuts through the complexity, getting to the heart of the Bible's teaching regarding the third person of the Trinity.

Tips for Public Speaking

These tips come from my personal public speaking experience over the past two decades as well as my formal training (Communications major at Biola University as well as many conferences, workshops, and books). I’ve also recently been asking different speakers and pastors what they think are the most important tips for public speaking. Below are my findings. These are not necessarily in any particular order. And, to be honest, I learned most of these through making mistakes. But nevertheless, here are my nine tips for public speakers:

Rise early and be alone with God: wise counsel from an old divine

What is the best time of day to pray and meditate on the Word of God? For me, the best time is the early morning. With four young children in the house, all of whom are usually still sleeping this is the only quiet time in my home. This time also has the advantage of beginning your day by lashing your heart to the mast that is Christ. This was the practice of many of the old divines from Calvin to Edwards and Spurgeon.

10 Misconceptions About Mental Illness and Faith

My concern is that we not give up one people, that we maintain hope that they can connect with God in a meaningful way (even if only to them). They were created in God’s image and although the image has been defaced, it hasn’t been erased. What are the legal implications for these types of situation? I’ll leave that to the courts. But in the court of public opinion and especially in our churches, we need to have a much more nuanced approach to those who do things or act in ways that cause us to question their mental capacity. We need to remain open to the notion that we may not be seeing things as clearly as we would with professional help engaged in the situation. We need to embrace the fact that people were created in God’s image and without ignoring earthly wisdom, trust that God can work in and through an individual and those around them in powerful ways.

Three Ways Leaders Must Communicate Vision - Eric Geiger

If you have not gotten tired of speaking about your team’s mission, the team does not yet know it. If you have not articulated the current vision over and over again, the team vaguely knows what is important. Most leaders fail to understand how long it takes for organizational direction to be understood and embraced. If you want vision to be embraced, it must be repeated over and over again. Max Depree was right; “Leadership is like the 2 nd grade; it means repeating the important things over and over again.”

Is God Temporal or Timeless? (Part 1 of 2) (William Lane Craig)

Robert Lawrence Kuhn (host of PBS' "Closer to Truth") asks William Lane Craig about God's personal relationship with time. Questions explored: If God is timeless how can He be active in the temporal world? Who is Soren Kierkegaard? Does it makes sense to talk about a timeless person? Does time affect God? Or does God affect time? Does God have a future? How does Evil and time effect one another? How does God work in time if He were in time? How does God work in time if He were timeless? How would God be in a tensed theory of time? How would God be in a tenseless theory of time? Has World Entered a ‘Post-Darwin’ Era, or Have We Merely Evolved?

In the evolution debates that roil politics, education, and the media, language is weaponized. Defenders of orthodox Darwinian thinking denounce intelligent design (ID), a highly controversial scientific rival, as “creationism” and “science denial.” The charges are false but effective in manipulating emotion.

Pushing Past Entitlement to Find Success

John T.: It's funny you said that about inoculate, because when I started writin' the book a while back, one of my editors came to me and said, "Whatever you do," they said, "this is an important book, 'cause nobody's writin' on it. Whatever you do, do not write a finger-wagging book." And I said, "What's that mean?" (Laughter) 'Cause everybody is saying, "Ain't it awful? Ain't it awful? Look how selfish. And everybody's desire, you know, says they deserve this." And they said, "Write some solutions for once." So, the whole book is about God's process of how does He inoculate and cure that within us, with our children, with our adult children, with our friends, with our employees?

Hate crime reported by gay man exposed as fraud after police investigation

There is probably no better know case of a hate crime that wasn’t a hate crime than the attack against Matthew Shepard in Wyoming. For years, the left wing media said that the attack was about the victim’s homosexual behaviors. It was only much later that the true came out that this was just a robbery by two people he knew who needed money for drugs. What was amazing was that the truth was reported in “The Advocate” – a leading pro-homosexuality publication.

28 Three Ways To Increase Staff Meeting Effectiveness

In the new church or early years, hold staff meetings with every warm body in the room. When you have 2-3 ministry staff, begin meetings separately and retain all decision making activity for that meeting. Hold a separate meeting with all of your administrative staff and ministry staff for lunch and prayer. Keep that meeting to one hour. Eventually you’ll have to eliminate lunch if you want to get any praying and sharing done.

Two Reviews Claim the Shooting of 12-Year-Old Tamir Rice Was ‘Reasonable’

The shooting caused a national outrage when video of the incident surfaced showing officers shooting the boy, who was playing with an Airsoft gun, within seconds of arriving at a park. The officers were sent to the area after a 911 caller reported seeing someone pointing a gun at people, though they reiterated twice that it was probably a fake pistol and the person was "probably a juvenile.” The 911 dispatcher did not relay this information to officers, saying only that there was a black male who possessed a gun. The officers have been criticized for firing on the child so quickly, and driving their car just a few feet from him before opening fire. They say he reached for the fake gun that was in his waistband. One of the reports says, “There can be no doubt that Rice’s death was tragic and, indeed, when one considers his age, heartbreaking. Officer Loehmann’s belief that Rice posed a threat of serious physical harm or death was objectively reasonable as was his response to that perceived threat.”

A Consequential Monday for College Football

Iran Says ‘Washington Post’ Reporter Is Guilty of Spying

An Iranian American investigative reporter has been convicted of espionage in Iran. According to a report on Iranian state TV, Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaia, who has already been in jail for more than a year, faces a sentence of up to 20 years. Officials in the country have been very secretive about the actual charges and the trial, which took place nearly two months ago. The State Department told reporters that the “process has been opaque and incomprehensible from the start.”

You are a soul.

Skeptics say that they don’t believe in the “soul.” Yet the soul is simply the life that inhabits the body. It is the real you. Genesis 35:18 says of Rachel, “her soul was departing (for she died)…” If someone lost all of his limbs in a terrible accident, though he has only half of his physical body he is still a whole person. He is the same complete soul.

From now on when I speak I'm requesting a couple guitars be placed on stage. Makes apologetics seem cooler! :-)

What’s the Difference Between Self-Love and Self-Esteem?

And this is true even if I think I am a jerk and have no self-esteem. Self-esteem is not a given in humanity. Self-love is a given. That is why Jesus used it the way he did. One can be taught self-esteem, but no one has to learn self-love; that is, no one has to learn to seek his own happiness. Even if a person drinks himself crazy, smokes three packs of cigarettes a day, and finally commits suicide, the reason is not that he doesn’t love himself, but that his notion of what would make himself happy is distorted. He doesn’t love himself rightly. He is trying to minimize his misery with drink and with suicide, which is the flip side of seeking happiness. He wants to be happy. But the only way he can see it is to minimize his pain by taking his life.
