What Is the Covenant of Redemption?
However, quite apart from speculation, the Bible has much to say about God’s activity “before” the world was made. The Bible speaks often of God’s eternal counsel, of His plan of salvation and the like. It is a matter of theological urgency that Christians not think of God as a ruler who ad libs His dominion of the universe. God does not “make it up as He goes along.” Nor must He be viewed as a bumbling administrator who is so inept in His planning that His blueprint for redemption must be endlessly subject to revision according to the actions of men. The God of Scripture has no “plan b” or “plan c.” His “plan a” is from everlasting to everlasting. It is both perfect and unchangeable as it rests on God’s eternal character, which is among other things, holy, omniscient, and immutable. God’s eternal plan is not revised because of moral imperfections within it that must be purified. His plan was not corrected or amended because He gained new knowledge that He lacked at the beginning. God’s plan never changes because He never changes and because perfection admits to no degrees and cannot be improved upon.
Silent Auction - Cross Examined - Christian Apologetic Ministry | Frank Turek | Christian Apologetics | Christian Apologetics Speakers
Back by popular demand is J. Warner Wallace. Jim has been a police officer for 25 years and now serves as a Cold Case Homicide Detective in Southern California as well as with the L.A.P.D. Jim was an “angry atheist” and was committed to a naturalistic worldview – that is, until he began to fairly evaluate the evidence for Christianity. After taking a hard look at the evidence, he went from hardened skeptic to Christian believer. In his recent book, “ Cold Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels ” (2013, David C. Cook Publishers) Jim uses the research methods of a homicide detective to show that the Gospel writers were telling the truth and that Jesus is risen from the dead. As profiled on Dateline October 3, 2014, Jim recently solved a 35-year-old murder case winning a conviction against the client of defense attorney Robert Shapiro (who was on the O.J. Simpson legal team).
Kindle Deals of the Week in Christianity, Bible Study and Apologetics ($0.99 to $2.99)
The Bible may be the most bought book in the world, but it is also often the least read and least applied due to a basic lack of understanding and motivation on the part of readers. Read the Bible for Life aims to improve biblical literacy in the culture and the church by simultaneously moving readers toward greater skill in reading the Bible well and toward a deeper commitment to applying Scripture to everyday life. Through a series of down-to-earth conversations with some of today’s brightest scholars, author George Guthrie discusses the basic tools and attitudes needed to read the Bible more effectively. The book also discusses issues such as reading the Bible in context, choosing and reading a Bible translation, reading in times of sorrow or suffering, and reading the Bible with your family. As we better understand how to read the Bible skillfully, we begin to see how every person of the Bible, every psalm, and every teaching fits into the Bible’s powerful, overarching story, and we begin to realize our place in the story that God is still writing in the world. Gordon College Will Lose Accreditation over Behavioral Standards - Stand to Reason Blog
Such control over the personal lives of college students, adults above the age of 18, bothers me and I have to wonder why it seems like a good thing to all of you. These kids aren't joining a religious organisation or ministry, they're getting an education, they may not have even had the choice of where to go, why do they have to have this draconian policing of their romantic lives? What has that got to do with learning Art or German or Engineering? I remember the humiliation and the shame I felt at a Christian college because one day I made the mistake of wearing shorts (to the knee) on a hot Texas day while running on to campus to collect a book. It wasn't just that I'd contravened a dress code, it was made clear to me that I was sinning. I can only imagine how much greater the shame must be for a young gay man or woman to have to live in the kind of atmosphere and culture that these places foster. You can say it isn't about identity all you want but I could change my clothes, a gay person doesn't have that luxury.
New clues cast doubt on 'Gospel of Jesus' Wife'
and no one knows by whom. John, Luke, Mathew and Mark were not written by John, Luke, Matthew and Mark. <-contradiction....if no one knows who wrote them..then you can NOT say Matthew, Mark, Luke and John di dnot write it....you don't know! Hello!! Second..youre statement is misleading.."every theologian knows this" no..not every..and MOST know thie works are anonymous, that's a given..yet MOST ALSO provide enough reliable evidence to show they were authored by the said authors! Thirdly..there is no discrepancy of what was said by jesus at the crucifixion..his last words...ALL are his last words..in NO place did it say one or the other were his ONLY words...that's someone ADING to the account..and whats this silly notion about guilt?? I don't live with guilt....(there IS good guilt, one that prompts a person to do better...but not feel unworthy) I do not live in guilt..the BIble clearly says we are free from condemnation! Grace to You
Although as Christians we experience God’s gracious forgiveness, sin still has serious consequences in our lives. Sin grieves the Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:30), causes God not to answer our prayers (1 Peter 3:7), limits our ability to serve God (2 Tim. 2:20-21), or even disqualifies some from Christian service (1 Cor. 9:27). It also renders our worship hypocritical and unacceptable (Ps. 33:1; Isa. 1:14), causes God to withhold blessing (Jer. 5:25), robs us of joy (Ps. 51:12), subjects us to God’s chastening (Heb. 12:5-11), hinders our spiritual growth (1 Cor. 3:13), and pollutes our fellowship with Him (1 Cor. 10:21). Most significantly, sin causes our lives to dishonor Him (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

Why We Neglect Our Bibles
The Bible is relevant for the life and work of any man. But really it comes down to this. Does he want to see the greatest treasure in the universe? Does he desire to know Jesus and enjoy Jesus more than anything? Does he love people so much that he grieves over the fact that they don’t know Jesus and will be lost forever without him? That is the question. If Jesus is supreme in this person’s life, if the passion is to know him above all, if the passion is to desire him and enjoy him and treasure him more than anything, if the passion is to bring as many people with you as you can into that experience, then you can’t live without the Bible. It is the most relevant book in the world.

The Missing Demographic in Urban Churches
All of this concern I understand firsthand. I certainly never imagined living in a city—indeed, I hated cities. Though all of my children were born in the city, I can imagine how certain things would be easier if I were parenting in the suburbs or a small town—practically, financially, and especially spiritually. I think about suburban churches and their burgeoning kids' programs and family ministries, and I realize that as our children grow and mature it will be challenging for them not having many Christian friends their age.

Loving Muslims Enough to Reach Out, Globally and Locally
The big issue here is engagement , and I am thankful that there are missionaries seeing to engage Muslims with the gospel. I recognize that some will go to far in contextualization, while people back home doing nothing to reach Muslims will complain about them. That's part of it, but we need more, not less, missionaries contextualizing gospel communication to Muslim contexts if we want to see a movement among Muslims.
Uphold the Cause of the Poor and the Oppressed
It’s around this time that the brokenness of the world really starts to weigh on me. I don’t know that I could practice this type of law if I were not cognizant of a just and righteous God who one day will bring justice and reconciliation to the earth in all spheres—the justice sphere, the family sphere, and the economic sphere, to start. Because on this earth, in this court, in this job market, in this client’s family—injustice and brokenness in all spheres are converging and reigning supreme, and we may or may not see justice in court today. Or ever on this earth.
Kingdom and Cross: What God Has Joined Together, Let Not Man Separate
How, then, can we summarize the relationship between the kingdom and the cross? While many Christians either champion the kingdom or cling to the cross, Scripture presents a mutually enriching relationship between the two that draws significantly from the story of Israel and culminates in the crucifixion of Christ the king. The story of redemption reveals that the promises of the kingdom (for example, victory over enemies, forgiveness of sin, new exodus) find their fulfillment primarily in the cross of Christ. Furthermore, kingdom and cross need not vie for position in the story of redemption because they play different roles. The cross is central (the climactic mid-point of the story) and the kingdom is telic (the end-goal of the story). The glory of God’s wisdom, however, is displayed in the manner that the end-time kingdom has broken into the middle of history through the death of the messiah.
Support for controversial Darwin theory of 'jump dispersal'
More than one hundred and fifty years ago, Charles Darwin hypothesized that species could cross oceans and other vast distances on vegetation rafts, icebergs, or in the case of plant seeds, in the plumage of birds. Though many were skeptical of Darwin's 'jump dispersal' idea, a new study suggests that Darwin might have been correct.
Study shows how chimpanzees share skills: Evidence of new behavior being transmitted socially
The study indicates that group-specific behavioural variants in wild chimpanzees can be socially learned, adding to the evidence that this prerequisite for culture originated in a common ancestor of great apes and humans, before the advent of modern humans. Dr Thibaud Gruber, Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Neuchtel, said: "This study tells us that chimpanzee culture changes over time, little by little, by building on previous knowledge found within the community. This is probably how our early ancestors' cultures also changed over time. In this respect, this is a great example of how studying chimpanzee culture can help us model the evolution of human culture. Nevertheless, something must have subsequently happened in our evolution that caused a qualitative shift in what we could transmit, rendering our culture much more complex than anything found in wild apes. Understanding this qualitative jump in our evolutionary history is what we need to investigate now."
Lazy Cultural Engagement
I think that’s because we tend to treat actual cultural artifacts in the way we sometimes treat the Bible: as “proof texts” from which we can draw principles or truths for application. Though we love the Bible, we evangelicals in particular have often treated verses as if they stand alone, forgetting that the story in which they appear speaks just as much as the verses themselves. Form speaks, as well as content.
4 Trends in Christianity That Could Scare You, According to Ed Stetzer
The lasting effects of these shifts will force churches to make a critical decision. They will either become a cultural church that allows the societal trends to dictate their ever-changing beliefs. Or they will become a counter-cultural church that faithfully adheres to Scripture and proclaims the gospel in a carefully considered way. The latter church will offer real hope in the midst of an adversarial culture and is the only real future for the American church.

The Unseen Pain behind 'Gay Marriage'
For instance, USA Today, in its cheerleading for same-sex marriage, ran a photo section on her ex-husband, his partner, and her children without her consent or even notice to her. Darnelle wrote, “Commenters exclaimed at how beautiful this gay family was and congratulated my ex-husband and his new partner on the family that they ‘created’ . . .,” even though, she continued, “there is a significant person missing from those pictures: the mother and abandoned wife. That ‘gay family’ could not exist without me.”

One family that fled to Lebanon revealed how they lost their 5-year-old son to leukemia after they were unable to pay the fees charged by a local hospital.
Stories too Small to Satisfy
“Everyone is believing some kind of story to make sense of their life,” Justin Buzzard observes, “but only the biblical story is big enough to make sense of all the beauty and the brokenness we see in this world.”

Andy Stanley's North Point Ministries Named the Largest Church in America; He's Ready to Invest in 30-Somethings
Stanley recognizes that while he may have been the "it" preacher of his time, there's a time coming when he will have to pass the baton. "We should not create a model or a vision or an approach to ministry on the assumption that because we figured it out in the late '80s, we're going to figure it out in the 2000s." Referring to the old guard, Stanley said "We're done. We're here to facilitate the success of this generation."
WWF Report Claims Half of All Wildlife Has Disappeared in Past 40 Years; Christian Group Calls on Believers to Care for Planet
"Indeed, the report simply confirms what we read in Hosea — the birds of the air, the beasts of the field and the fish of the sea are dying — and in Romans — the creation groans. Why? Because of humankind's sin. We have not treated God's Earth as we should. We've treated it as rapacious squatters rather than the Christ-like stewards God created us to be," Tom Rowley, executive director of A Rocha USA, told The Christian Post in an email on Wednesday.

60 Percent of Voters Want Obamacare to Be Repealed
A new poll finds that three-fifths of likely voters support the repeal of Obamacare. A large plurality — 44 percent — wants to see Obamacare repealed and replaced with a conservative alternative. A much smaller group —16 percent — wants to see it repealed but not replaced. Less than one in three respondents — 32 percent — would like to keep Obamacare, whether in its current form or in amended form. So, with a conservative alternative in play, 60 percent of Americans support repeal, while only 32 percent oppose it.
Faithful Thinkers: As A Christian, Should I Celebrate Halloween?
A Devious Strategy
In my mind, I see this whole "AAHHHH! Its Satan in the flesh!" attitude as actually working against Christianity. When Christians turn up their noses at cute kids in innocent costumes, it sends a message to our neighbors that we are "holier than thou"- not exactly an invitation to hear the Gospel. I mean, have you ever been attracted to or wanted to listen to someone who obnoxiously told you that they were "better" than you? When people see this attitude in Christians, they are turned off and don't even want to be around us, much less, hear what we have to offer them. Jesus did not tell the tax collectors or the prostitutes to change their ways before he would speak with them; he allowed them to come to Him as they were, but commanded them to change after. The more that Christians act in the opposite direction of what Jesus did, the more people will distance themselves from the Gospel. Christians will be used as a weapon against what they know to be true until they wake up and realize that they are being used. Ironically, for those who think they are avoiding demonic influence, they may very well be already under the influence in such a sophisticated way that it would be next to impossible to detect (that's the strategy of a devious- and successful- war general).

Texas Nonprofit Is Helping Muslim Refugee Women Find Independence in War-Torn Middle East
She explained how men in the Middle East must "do everything" when it comes to the family. Most of the non-educated women only cook and clean. The immense pressure put on the men to provide could cause them to "crack" and be abusive, according to Handal. She also believes empowering women within that culture could improve their living conditions with their families by giving them a voice.
