Pence at March for Life: Let This Movement Be Known for Compassion Not Confrontation

Today, Vice President Mike Pence became the highest ranking elected official ever to speak at the March for Life rally in Washington DC in the event’s 40-year history. And though parts of the beginning of the speech took a strong political tone, the speech ended with a plea for protestors to remain compassionate. He told the marchers, I urge you to press on, but as it is written, “Let your gentleness be evident to all. Let this movement be known for love, not anger. Let this movement be known for compassion, not confrontation. When it comes to matters of the heart, there is nothing stronger than gentleness. I believe we will continue to win the hearts and minds of the rising generation if our hearts first break for young mothers and their unborn children, and if we, each of us, do all we can to meet them where they are with generosity not judgement. To heal our land and restore a culture of life we must continue to be a movement that embraces all, cares for all, and shows respect for the dignity and worth of every person. You can see it in its entirety below.

Here's the Leah Remini Interview That’s Outraged The Church of Scientology

Actress Leah Remini was recently a guest on Conan, and discussed her time as a member of the controversial “church” of Scientology. She recently released a documentary series called Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath which describes the financial and emotional suffering she endured as a member. Scientology officials are not happy with the appearance. Conan revealed that they sent him a letter attempting to discredit Remini, in an attempt to dissuade him from having her on the show. He said, We were contacted by the Church of Scientology. Today, they sent us a statement. They're obviously not happy you're on the show and they said in their statement that Leah Remini is doing this because she wants the fame, she wants the money, and she wants the attention. I was thinking today that it was very strange. I don't think I've ever had a document sent to me like that before and I've been doing this over 24 years. The interviews are genuinely unsettling.

Evangelicals for Life 2017 - Be a voice for life

The value of human life isn’t just an issue for Congress or activists or ethics professors. It’s an issue for every single Christian and every single local church. The church is the embassy of the Kingdom of Christ, and the Kingdom is where the unborn are prayed over, where the widows are visited, where the orphan is adopted, and where the disabled and the “unwanted” are made heirs with Christ of the universe. The church must speak a prophetic, gospel word to our culture of death. The cause of life is not a liberal vs conservative or red state vs blue state issue. It’s a Kingdom issue, and children of the King must stand up in defense of all human life. Will you join us as we do just that?

Do You Exercise for the Wrong Reasons?

The biblical take on exercise is not “Life is short; let your body go.” Rather, with God’s revealed truth ringing in our ears, we say, “Life is too short to not harness the body God gave me.” Our assignment in this age is a vapor. We are “a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (James 4:14). Too much is at stake, and our days are too few, to limp our way through by not leveraging our bodies (as we’re able) as the gift from God they are.

Only 1 in 7 Senior Pastors Is Under 40

There are drawbacks and benefits to graying leadership. The percentage of pastors with kids under 18 has dropped by almost half in 25 years, down to 35 percent. With older pastors, most now have grown children. Without kids at home, they may have more flexibility to balance family and church life. Though most (60%) are satisfied with their relationship with their offspring, an earlier Barna study found that 42 percent said they wish they had spent more time with their kids while they were at home.

The Only Road to Real Happiness

On the one hand, this means that any road to God that does not submit everything to the risen Christ is a road that will rob you of your joy, both now and in eternity. There is only one Mediator between God and mankind: the man, Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus is the only hope that anyone has to be happy.

Find Your Self-Esteem in Someone Else

That’s why, when trying to discern God’s will for our lives, we get confused if we look at ourselves in isolation. Just like a body part separated from the body looks strange, so do we out of the context of the church. It takes the body of Christ to understand the function of a part, and it takes all the parts working together to make the body function.

20 Not Pomp and Power but Dependence Upon the Lord - Christian Research Institute

The Almighty has His own purposes. “Woe unto the world because of offenses; for it must needs be that offenses come, but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh.” If we shall suppose that American slavery is one of those offenses which, in the providence of God, must needs come, but which, having continued through His appointed time, He now wills to remove, and that He gives to both North and South this terrible war as the woe due to those by whom the offense came, shall we discern therein any departure from those divine attributes which the believers in a living God always ascribe to Him? Fondly do we hope, fervently do we pray, that this mighty scourge of war may speedily pass away. Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said “the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.”

How to Argue Like a Pro for the Pro-Life Position

Most people are the victim of sounds bites. They have patched together a belief system. Accordingly, they have many inconsistencies. Be sure to graciously spot them. For example, you've probably heard something like, “Personally, I’m opposed to abortion, but I don’t think the government or anyone should tell a woman what to do with her body.” You can point out this inconsistent position by asking them “Why are you personally opposed to abortion?” Most likely their answer will include that abortion takes a life. For there is really only one reason to be opposed to abortion: it is the killing of an innocent human being. As such, make sure to point out the conflicting position of opposing abortion because you think it kills an innocent life and yet still think that other people should have the right to kill an innocent human life.

Three (More) Reasons Why Junk DNA Is No Longer Evidence for Evolution

Yet, over the last decade, numerous studies have demonstrated that practically every class of junk DNA displays function. The most comprehensive work toward this end comes from the ENCODE (ENCyclopedia Of DNA Elements) Project. Phase II results, published in September 2011, demonstrated that, at minimum, 80 percent of the human genome consists of functional elements . As Phase III results become available, it is likely that even more of the genome will be deemed functional.

4 Things Your Kids Should Know About Atheists

This week I had the opportunity to be on the radio program Cross Defense with Rev. Rod Zwonitzer (KFUO-AM 850 in St. Louis). We discussed the common atheist claim that believing in God is evidentially the same as believing in Santa, why that claim offers a great opportunity to talk to your kids about the evidence for God at Christmas, whether Christians should include Santa in their Christmas celebrations, and how to keep your kids focused on Jesus this time of year. If you’re interested, you can hear the whole interview online here .

The Surprisingly Positive Legacy of the Kermit Gosnell Case

We know from Scripture that loving God and loving our neighbor are the greatest commandments, and that our love for others is an extension of our love for God. As Christ said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matt. 25:40). Nothing we do as pro-life advocates or as followers of Christ will count for much if it’s done without love—love for every human being made in the image of God. This love in action is essential to the pro-life movement, especially as we serve girls and women who feel abortion is their only choice.

Liam Neeson: God Is Love. If God Were a Stern Master, I Would Have Given Up the Faith

I think Ferreira’s idea of God was ultimately one of love, but this is what I choose to believe myself. If God were a stern master, I would have given up the faith long ago. God is love, love is God. I have had personal experiences of God’s love, beautiful and calming, all the things the Psalms talk about. If he was a stern master, well, I don’t know.

Renewing Your Mind | God's Kingly Providence | Jan 27, 2017

Nations rise and fall. In our own day, we have seen the Soviet Union collapse with a swift military coup. In ancient history, there was Egypt, Assyria, and the mighty Roman Empire. But it takes more than an army to secure a nation. Here in this series "Providence: God in Control," Dr. Sproul will revisit the night when Belshazzar, the king of Babylon, discovered that walls and armies could not stay the mighty hand of God.

34
Can Loved Ones in Heaven Look Down on Me?

4. We should be cautioned to beware of spending too much time thinking about the saints above so that we are tempted to interact with them in the way that the Roman Catholics do when they pray to the saints and pray to Mary. I think this is very dangerous for the health of our faith. It has led many people, millions I fear, to look to the saints and to Mary in their longing for help, rather than focusing on Christ and the throne of grace that he has opened to us. This very book of Hebrews that we just quoted also says, “We do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence” — because of Christ — “draw near to the throne of grace” — not to Mary, not to the saints — “that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:15–16) Christ is the one mediator between God and man. And the New Testament does not encourage us to make the saints or Mary into mediators as we seek God’s help.

Today Is My Birthday Because My Mom Chose Life

My birthday is a bittersweet day. I was born out of wedlock to a poor teenager in Eastern Europe. The terrified young woman who gave me life is my hero. Christianity Was Never Meant to Be Provable

Naturalists seem to forget that the Bible was not meant to be “scientific” in the strictest sense, and those parts that do not align with the discoveries of modern science in no way negates its validity. There are many mediums of truth. For instance, there are two Creation accounts in Genesis (1:1-2:3 and 2:4-2:25), but they can both be seen as valid because they describe the Creation event from different angles. They are like a caricature and a photograph of the same person: different, but not contradictory.

Go See Hidden Figures

“Hidden Figures” is a wonderfully inspiring movie and it couldn’t come at a better time for our culture. On one hand, this increasingly racially divided land of ours badly needs to see a way forward, including the responsibility we all have to recognize, acknowledge, and enable the dignity of others. On the other hand, in an age where so many claim to be victims of oppression for not having free birth control or not having everyone endorse their lifestyle choices, we can learn from those who faced and overcame real oppression, and how we can help.

The Spiritual Problem with 'Unfriend' Culture

It’s easy to hide behind our screens instead of pick up the phone. It’s easy to tweet my disagreement than to have a real life respectful conversation with someone who thinks differently. And the bigger problem is, we’ve started to translate our social media speak into how we actually speak to one another.

Generosity Isn’t About How Much Money You Have

Generosity begins with what you have and where you are. When my church received a $1.6 million windfall from a decades-old $1,000 real estate investment, we remembered the miracle of the loaves and fishes. As told in the Gospel of Mark, a crowd of 5,000 is gathered after having listened to Jesus preach. It’s evening and the disciples worry the crowd is getting hungry, so they ask Jesus to tell everyone to disperse to local villages for food. In a moment that surely bewildered the disciples, Jesus replies, “Go and see how many loaves you have.” They return with a meager five loaves and two fish, which is enough for Jesus. He blesses the food and the crowd eats its fill.
