Announcing a Brand New Evangelistic App: Life in 6 Words

I am so excited to announce the release of our brand new evangelistic app called “ Life in 6 Words .” Based on the Gospel video produced by Dare 2 Share and delivered with astonishing excellence by Propaganda , this app is simple, clear and very easy to use.How it works is simple. You ask someone how they would describe their life in 6 words and then show them the app. There’s a list of 20 words for them to choose from that range from “adventure” to “broken” to “money” to “fun.” Once they choose their six words they push “Next” on the screen and their words appear in the order they pushed them. Then you can ask them why they chose those particular words. This is a great opportunity to listen to them deeply and get to know them more. Finally you ask them if they’d be interested in how the best selling book of all time might describe their lives in six words? If they say yes you swipe through six beautifully illustrated screens with six words and six sentences (based on Dare 2 Share’s GOSPEL acrostic as well as the Life in 6 Words video.) Here are the six words and sentences:

Faithful Thinkers: Book Review: Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off

Introduction How did life begin? This question has perplexed humanity for centuries. Some people believe that it came along by natural processes. Others believe that a divine Designer is behind it all. These two options go head-to-head, tested against the latest scientific research in the book "Origins of Life: Biblical and Evolutionary Models Face Off" ( hardcover ,  Kindle , Supplemental Site ) by astrophysicist Dr. Hugh Ross and biochemist Dr. Fazale Rana. The book is divided into three sections, seventeen chapters, and 298 pages (including notes and appendices). This review provides a chapter-by-chapter summary of the contents of the book, but it must not be accepted as a replacement for reading the book, itself. The review will conclude with my thoughts and recommendation. Drs. Ross and Rana take the position that the origin of life is by divine design. To scientifically test their hypothesis, they present their model, competing models, and the latest research; they then compare the predictions of the models to the research to build their case. Before examining the current state of origins research, it is a good idea to take a quick look at the events that led to the current state.

XXXChurch.com's Craig Gross on Why Christians Should Have the Best Sex, but Don't (Interview)

I'm 39 [38 at the time of the discussion], my dad died two years ago now and my mom's visiting and we're talking in the van with my kids, and we're driving by the house that she grew up at. My parents weren't Christians when they got married and I just starting asking her a bunch of questions… I said something like they got married very quickly and I just brought up the question about living together. (She answers) no, we didn't live together and I said did you guys have sex and she goes no, we didn't have sex and she's super embarrassed, she didn't want to talk about and she's like your kids are in the car and I was like mom, it's fine, why didn't you have sex? You didn't know anything about Jesus, your parents didn't raise you (in the church), and I was super intrigued and then I said to her, mom I'm 38 like it would have been great to know this when I was like 12 or 11 or 13. Like (it would have been great if) you and dad sat me down and said 'hey, you know what, we didn't know anything about it but we chose to do this.' I'm like pushing her and she's like just get me out of the car.

Empire by Derek Minor

Christian rapper Derek Minor, born Derek Johnson, Jr. in Pontiac, Michigan, moved at a young age with his mother to Tennessee. Although he wasn't close to his father, a childhood summertime visit — during which he started rapping, assisted by beats made by his father — fostered his involvement with music. Johnson attended Middle Tennessee State University and graduated with a degree in recording industry management. From 2006 through 2008, the budding rapper and producer, known then as...

I'm a feminist and I'm against abortion - CNN.com

As a one-time abortion rights supporter, I well know the temptation to see the right to abortion as a representation of women's equality. After all, bearing an unexpected child would seem to interrupt a woman's ability to design her own future according to her own goals and ambitions. More poignantly, bearing a child while in poverty or while already overwhelmed by caregiving for other children, or perhaps while experiencing health risks, reeks of an injustice known to women alone.

We Are Gomer

The story of Hosea and Gomer reminds us that God loves us not because of our faithfulness, but because of his. Christ saves, and continues to intercede for, the bride who covets other men. Until we see God face-to-face, we will continue to be drawn to other things. But for now, our Husband stands and fights.

How Should Christians Measure Success?

As an author and a mother, I have two “jobs” where measuring success doesn’t come easy. My “success” as a mom can’t be quantified by the number of times I brush my kids’ hair or the number of times they say please or even by the grades they get or their athletic accomplishments. All I can do is try to serve them faithfully and trust God with the results. Similarly, as a writer, I suppose I could set my sights on writing a bestseller, but I'm pretty sure to do so would be to ignore God's call. The bestseller list isn’t my goal. My goal is to write books that will last in a world of instant gratification. To communicate deep truth and beauty in a world of surface images and distractions.

UK Christian School Shut Down for Having 'Discriminatory Views' Toward Other Faiths

Good points. In addition to what you said, Islam gets a free pass while Christianity is considered hateful. True Christianity is the least hateful thing in the world and Islam is the most hateful of all religions. People have been so deceived/blinded by the enemy but that is what happens when you want to live in sin and support things like homosexuality and so-called “gay marriage”/”marriage equality” and tout them as perfectly acceptable, etc. Things which by-the-way, Islam itself condemns and has harsh punishments for up to and including the death penalty. Why is this not an issue with those that take an issue with Christianity? Because only Christianity offers salvation while at the same time exposing man’s desperately sinful state and his subsequent need for a savior because of being a slave to sin and unable to save one’s self from the penalty of sin which is eternal death in hell. No other religion does this. God help us all and them too (the enemies of the cross), to see the error of their ways before it is too late. Amen.

How to Combat the Demonic

The questions is: how should we combat the demonic? If Satan is real—prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour—what can Christians do about it? Listen to what Jesus says in Luke 10:19-20: “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” In one breath, Jesus avoids both modern errors: he acknowledges the reality of spiritual enemies, but reminds us not to be obsessed with them. Jesus consistently directs people away from preoccupation with the demonic. He took on his fair share of demons, but he never tells us to go out demon hunting. Instead, he says to “rejoice that our names are written in heaven.”

That there’s all kinds of different ways that that relationship can be made manifest and it requires a state of receptivity to know that that’s what’s happening.

Are You Likely to Have an Affair?

I have most of the opportunity-based high risk factors that are discussed here, but I have been careful to always weigh the risk/benefit ratio which has served me well.  Is 20 minutes of fun really worth 20 years (or more) of misery?  You realize this when you are kicked out of the home of the woman that you really do love even if some of the excitement has dissipated, relegated to seeing your kids on alternate weekends and a few weeks in the summer, and your "friend" moves on to the next phase of her life that does not include you.  Play the tape all the way through to the end as if this were a movie of your life.  Odds are you will end up looking like every other idiot who took the plunge.  If season 1 of Showtime's "The Affair" doesn't keep you at home then you need counseling.

Responding to the Non-Christian Biology Classroom - Christian Research Institute

This means that arguing with a teacher or professor during class could be seen as disrespectful and a waste of other students’ time. Also, not all professors welcome discussion or dialogue in a class, particularly if it is a content-heavy class, such as microbiology or organic chemistry. Furthermore, in college, many of the students are paying to take this class. They are not paying to hear another student wax eloquent on his personal opinion. However, asking good questions that spark thoughtful consideration can make for a dynamic and vibrant classroom, and usually teachers like interested students. Talk science. Particularly in the univer- sity setting, you are going to have a diversity of people in the classroom. For all of your differences, the one common ground you have is that you are taking biology (or geology, or chemistry, or biochemistry, and so on). So talk about biology. Even if you want to delve into a discussion on worldview assumptions, start with talking about evidences from biology.

Universe, Planet, Proteins...It's Fine-Tuning All the Way Down

There's more. The fine-tuning necessary for life to exist on a planet is nothing compared with the fine-tuning required for the universe to exist at all. For example, astrophysicists now know that the values of the four fundamental forces -- gravity, the electromagnetic force, and the "strong" and "weak" nuclear forces -- were determined less than one millionth of a second after the big bang. Alter any one value and the universe could not exist. For instance, if the ratio between the nuclear strong force and the electromagnetic force had been off by the tiniest fraction of the tiniest fraction -- by even one part in 100,000,000,000,000,000 -- then no stars could have ever formed at all. Feel free to gulp.

A Dream Realized

It was just a few months before Chuck went home to Jesus. We were sitting in his home in Naples, Florida, and he was “schooling” me, as he did several times in the nine months he and I were together at Prison Fellowship. On this particular afternoon, he was flipping through his ever-present yellow legal pad, talking about his special passion for ministry in the federal prison system. Chuck served seven months in the federal system, and it was there God touched his heart and lit the fire of future ministry.

Hollywood Wants Chris Pratt to Be the New Indiana Jones, No Duh.

L ook, this is barely surprising. At this point, it seems weird that Chris Pratt isn't just going to star in every movie. Who would complain? But he seems like a particularly good fit for Indiana Jones, seeing as he channeled such a Harrison Ford vibe in Guardians of the Galaxy . Now, talks are still early (and we'e heard rumors like this before ), so this whole thing is far from certain, but Deadline is confidently reporting that talks are definitely happening and filming could start after Pratt wraps his work on Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 . Just don't call him junior ...

YWAM Missionaries Won’t Be Deported over Visa Issue

The UK Visas & Immigration office discovered errors in YWAM paperwork following an audit last September. While the missions organization said it immediately submitted a corrective action plan to the government, the office warned that YWAM could be downgraded, limited in its visa sponsorship capacity, or lose its license over the errors. On December 23, YWAM learned that its license had been suspended for 20 business days. The missionary organization, which has operated in the UK for more than 40 years, released a statement Tuesday praising God for the resolution to its visa issue and thanking supporters for their encouragement.

Kingdom of God: Commonality and Consonance between Jesus and Paul - Christian Research Institute

In an article published in Christianity Today , Scot McKnight helpfully raised the important question of the relationship between Jesus and Paul. 1 He suggested, “Jesus preached almost exclusively about the kingdom of heaven, while Paul highlighted justification by faith—and not vice versa.” He pointed out the evangelical crisis of choosing between Jesus and Paul and came up with the solution that grounds kingdom vision and justification on the gospel of Jesus. The gospel (good news) is “the saving story of Jesus that completes Israel’s story.” Both Jesus’ kingdom vision and Paul’s justification speak of Jesus as the one who completes Israel’s story. Therefore, both belong to the one gospel story of Jesus. Hence, according to McKnight, we find the unity between Jesus and Paul. But he weakens this unity by splitting Paul’s justification from Jesus’ kingdom vision so that in the end Jesus and Paul are still materially divided in his scheme. For him, both kingdom vision and justification speak of Jesus but they do so in very different and minimally overlapping ways. This article will show that this division between Jesus’ kingdom vision and Paul’s justification is not warranted by the New Testament, and that the division and so-called crisis dissolve when Jesus and Paul are interpreted in fuller manners in terms of God’s kingdom.

9Marks at Southern

The gospel tells the story of God, man, Christ, and a requisite response. It heralds the news about creation, fall, redemption, and a glorious consummation. And it is the only thing that will build a church. All that other stuff only builds a crowd.

38 Once Again Going After Eric Metaxas, Now in The New Yorker, Lawrence Krauss Opts for Misdirection

Dr. Krauss is honest when he says that life has yet to be discovered anywhere apart from on the Earth. This is notable since we have been looking for over fifty years. Sure, there are lots of other stars in our galaxy that haven't been searched, but within about 120 light-years, no repeatable signal has been received. This puts an upper limit on how many radio-capable civilizations are communicating in the galaxy. True, we have found life in some very inhospitable places on and in the Earth, but this by itself is only a testament to the hardiness of life on our planet. It doesn't necessarily say anything about the likelihood of life existing anywhere else. Despite what we know about the origin of life, it is still guesswork as to what conditions are necessary.

Why the Prosperity Gospel Is the Worst Pyramid Scheme Ever

Like a pyramid scheme, the health-and-wealth gospel feeds on the down and out. My friend Vallerian Mganga tells me that in Kenya, the health-and-wealth message is the only version of Christianity most people ever hear. My father-in-law, who mentors prisoners, tells me that he runs into this teaching routinely in the prison system. Why? Because the health-and-wealth gospel preys on people desperate for relief.

Maybe someday I can help save some of the people there too. I love you and your family. May God bless you always. Have a great day. Thank you again.  – Sonia"

The Presence of God

Third, I’m tempted to say the last chapter is worth the price of the book, but you need to do the heavy lifting of working through the previous ones for the payoff. Here Lister works out the implications for living with God’s presence in its rightful place. The church isn’t simply entrusted with proclaiming the gospel but is itself an instrument through which he accomplishes his mission. If that’s true, then sanctification, worship, evangelism, and missions are not as individualistic in nature as many of our churches seem to functionally assume. The whole body of Christ mediates his presence in the world by proclaiming the gospel and experiencing its blessings. So as the gospel goes to all nations, with churches being established in those areas where there were once no churches, the presence of God becomes manifest in ways that accomplish what he originally set out to do in creating us. As I contemplated these lofty ideas, I realized the implications for life and ministry are endless.

9 Things You Should Know About Auschwitz and Nazi Extermination Camps

5. At various concentration and extermination camps, the Nazis conducted medical experiments on their prisoners, which included placing subjects in pressure chambers, testing drugs on them, freezing them, attempting to change eye color by injecting chemicals into children's eyes, and various amputations and other surgeries that were often conducted without anesthesia. The most notorious of these Nazi physicians was Dr. Josef Mengele, who worked in Auschwitz. According to one witness, Mengele sewed together a set of twins named Guido and Ina, who were about 4 years old, from the back in an attempt to create Siamese twins. Their parents were able to get some morphine and kill them to end their suffering.

Drone incident at White House highlights long-studied, still-unsolved security gap

People have also been nabbed in recent months for flying drones near the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.

It can be a lonely situation for child and caregiver alike. Even in our part-time role, we’ve discovered we’re without the supportive community we had when raising our own children—networks formed from neighborhood friends, church family, and the casual connections at extracurricular activities. Grandparents and grandchildren can be isolated from these social circles by the dance of their own complex work schedules, physical limitations or illness, unpredictable visits from grandchildren's parents, and other social and generational differences.

Glory Hunger: A Book that Confronts an Innate Human Struggle, Free for CAPC Members

If you take a moment and look around at our celebrity obsessions, you’ll probably ask like Vassar, “Has a generation ever been so concerned with its own glory?” (60). It’s certainly possible, but our generation’s concern is clearly the most documented.  As Vassar observes, “Our narcissistic culture has made celebrities into cultural icons and heroes, and celebrity status is now the holy grail” (58).  Vassar’s book speaks to this issue without dwelling on it too extensively. While this isn’t a pop culture book per se, it models good cultural engagement by showing cultural awareness of something innately human that takes a problematic turn and then speaking to it cogently from the Scriptures.

Sometimes Answering Atheists Dignifies Folly

Although atheists employ other types of insubstantial arguments, for the purpose of this article we will just consider as insubstantial their arguments from “luck.” Certainly not all atheists utilize insubstantial arguments of the kind that we describe. But our concern is this: by lending credence to insubstantial arguments, the Christian apologist risks dignifying folly, encouraging self-satisfying flattery, and ultimately diminishing the power of gospel proclamation.
