Trump Just Led a Standing Ovation for Bill and Hillary Clinton

An inauguration day luncheon featured an interest moments this afternoon when America’s new President Donald Trump asked everyone in attendance to stand and applaud former President Bill Clinton and Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The recent campaign featured numerous bitter exchanges between Trump and the Clintons, with Trump at one point telling Hillary Clinton he’d attempt to have her imprisoned if he were elected. At the luncheon, he said, There is something I wanted to say, because I was very honored—very, very honored—when I heard that President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton was coming today …. I have a lot of respect for those two people.

73-17

“73–17” is a sincere and passionate plea to black and white alike, to men and women alike, to all who would pause to ponder the power of personhood. In particular the film acknowledges the pain and addresses the plight of countless black women who, next to the children, have been the greatest victims of this system. What is a person? A person is you — as human today as you were in the womb.

Pretty much every Christian has had that experience. I remember one incident when someone in class spoke up and said, “I do not believe Jesus was real, or if He was, He was not some kind of superhero.” I wanted to respond, but did not know how or where to begin, so to my shame, I remained silent.

Morality and The New Atheism

Though the chorus of voices decrying belief in God has been humming in the ideological background for centuries, it seems to have reached a crescendo with the emergence of a movement that has been dubbed the new atheism. The trademark of this new and continuing brand of atheism is its vitriolic attack on religion. To its advocates, religious beliefs are not only false; they are also dangerous and must be expunged from all corners of society. The pundits of the new atheism are not content to nail discussion theses on the door of religion; they are also busy delivering eviction notices to the allegedly atavistic elements of an otherwise seamlessly progressive atheistic evolution of Homo Sapiens .

John Piper’s Prayer for President Trump

To that end Lord, we ask that you would bring Donald Trump out of darkness and into light. Give him a spirit of brokenness and humility. “Unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). “Unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). I pray that you would break his heart, give him humility, show him what it feels like to be penitent and to admit he’s done wrong — to confess he was wrong, ask forgiveness from you, and ask for forgiveness from the people that he’s wounded or people that he’s set a bad example for. He needs to be given the gift of faith and humility and repentance, and I pray that you would give it to him.

If we can’t see God, how can we know he exists? - Christian Research Institute

First, the fact that something cannot be seen does not presuppose that it doesn’t exist. Indeed, even a full–blown empiricist holds fast to the law of gravity while standing atop the Eiffel tower.

How Trump’s Inauguration Will Catalyze Christian Witness

And in our own day, individual Christians, churches, and organizations will go on sheltering refugees, adopting abandoned children, advocating for the dignity of women, standing with the poor and oppressed, and inviting more and more into the “life that is truly life” found in the Son of God. To a dying world, such practices seem small and naively weak, especially compared with political leaders like Trump who boast in their own economic and military strength. But to those with eyes to see, the small practices of the gospel are enough to turn the world upside-down. “Christianity is never as strong as it appears; but nor is it ever as weak as it appears,” said 19th-century German chancellor Otto von Bismarck. I anticipate that the next four years will bring us new opportunities to show how weak, and how strong, we really are.

Norm Geisler and Frank Turek: Legislating Tolerance

Introduction As a defender of the Christian worldview, I often defend the rightness or wrongness of certain acts, and with that, whether they should be made legal or illegal. I will usually appeal science and logic in these discussions. If the person is a Christian, then I will also appeal to the Bible, if it speaks specifically or general to the topic at hand. When it is clear that all the evidence stands against their view, in a "last-ditch" effort to undermine my arguments the challenger often resorts to appealing to "tolerance." This comes in the form of the person who wants to legalize some particular act saying that by not permitting the act (legalizing it), those in opposition to the legalization (conservatives, usually) are being intolerant and trying to force their morality on the world. I recently finished reading the book " Legislating Morality: Is It Wise, Is It Legal, Is It Possible " by Norman Geisler and Frank Turek. Here is their response to such a challenge: "When libertarians or liberals seek to give people more freedom (i.e., by passing a law that legalizes a formerly illegal activity), they do exactly what they condemn conservatives for doing.

3 Priorities for Evangelicals in the Trump Years

Perhaps most profoundly, at a time when Christians are largely viewed as anti-science, anti-intellectual, and just generally uncool, a president who was widely hailed as brilliant, scientific, and very cool spoke from the East Room of The White House during Easter season every year about the saving grace of Jesus Christ and what he accomplished on the cross. Republican, evangelistic Christians (and I use “evangelistic” intentionally) ended up taking the same basic posture to these remarks as Bill Maher, who repeatedly questioned President Obama’s faith (though Maher did not face the same criticism as the evangelical skeptics). For Maher, Obama was just too open-minded, too pro-science, to believe in something like the Resurrection. The failure of evangelicals to view the faith professions of Obama as a moment for fresh conversations about our faith might be one of the greatest missed evangelistic opportunities in America during the last decade.

Who Is Lord: Christ or Caesar?

Someday, we will be like Him. That’s our hope. But it’s not a hope that we put on the shelf, and it’s not a hope that sends us into a cave. It’s a hope that sends us into the world with confidence. We can be confident in God, confident in His Word, confident in Christ, confident in the gospel, and confident in hope. In the AD 90s, Domitian ruled as emperor over Rome. His cruelty rivaled that of Nero. He insisted that he be worshiped as a god. Christians, of course, could not participate in the rituals of this emperor cult. That left them vulnerable, and that vulnerability led to persecution. It is likely that John’s exile to the island of Patmos directly resulted from Domitian’s edicts. John refused to bow.

The Faith of Donald Trump

http://amzn.to/2jJyfKe In the first book to explore the religious values and background of the 45th president of the United States, “The Faith of Donald Trump” discusses how Trump's religious beliefs mold his personal life as well as inform his vision and politics. His victory, a political miracle greater than any other in recent history, Donald J. Trump’s presidency aims to be populous, yet biblically based. He has often said that “I am a tremendous believer" and Christianity helped drive the destiny of my victory. Discover how Trump integrates his faith and religion into his dreams for America. From his close bonds with ministers, the president trusts his religious principles to direct the actions and goals of his policies. “The Faith of Donald Trump” recounts Trump's conversion to Christianity, when he overcame the hostile liberal press, the Clinton machine, and the Hollywood elite to win the Presidency. From his announcement to run, President Trump is learning to use his faith to help him thrive in his political and private life. This revealing volume will inspire our fellow citizens to do the same.

How to Live Under an Unqualified President

2. A leader should be dependable, trustworthy, reliable . To invest someone with leadership is a trust. But Donald Trump treats language — the medium of truth — as a wax nose to be bent and molded to create a desired outcome, whether it corresponds to the truth or not. But where truth is treated with such indifference or contempt, the foundations of justice are crumbling. There is no recourse for the poor, if the powerful say that truth is what they say it is.

The Doctrines of Grace in John

How does God love the world? Debates about Reformed theology and the Five Points of Calvinism almost always include the use of John 3:16 as a proof text against the Reformed position. Yet when we consider this famous verse in the context of John’s entire Gospel, we see that the love of God that leads to salvation is reserved only for those whom the Father has given unto His Son. In this series, Steven Lawson demonstrates that the Gospel of John offers one of the clearest presentations of the doctrines of grace in all of Scripture, revealing that salvation is all of God from beginning to end.

Christ Reigns over All: Biblical Survey of God’s Kingdom

In other words, they will reign — that is the active notion of rule — over the kingdom of the Israelites. That is the notion of realm. And, thus, you see a picture of a coming king who is, on the one hand, authoritative. He rules. He reigns over the people. And yet, on the other hand, he is under God’s authority, so much so that the first responsibility he has when he takes on the throne is not to appoint a secretary of state or to arrange for the military to war. His first job is to write out longhand the words of the book of the law, and that will be his reading copy every day of his life as long as he lives, so that he learns not to turn to the left or to the right — away from the word of God. If those few verses in Deuteronomy 17 had been followed, all of Old Testament history would have been different. So, that is the anticipation of the coming of a king even in the time of Moses.

39 Friday's Featured Sermon: "Why Christians Submit to the Government"

send to a friend #3  Posted by Dan Bruce  |  Friday, January 20, 2017 at 7:38 AM Many Christians use Acts 5:29, which records that "Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men," to avoid subjecting themselves to civil laws they do not like. In doing so, they ignore the context given in Acts 5:27, which records that "... when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them ..." The point being that Peter and the disciples were not told to stop preaching Jesus by the civil authorities. They were being commanded to refrain by the religious authorities. The lesson is plain. When the religious authorities depart from preaching Jesus, then they have lost their spiritual authority. In recent years in America, many Christian leaders and lay persons have rightly rejected the spiritual authority of those whose leadership has departed from the Scriptures, but have too often made the mistake of turning, not to the church, but to secular politics to achieve spiritual ends.

God Made You Alive for God

You came into this world dead. Not sort of “hard of hearing” towards the gospel, not simply crippled in good works, not struggling to keep your head above the waters of sin. You were dead: spiritually lifeless and unmoving. Everything that a dead corpse can contribute to becoming alive, you could do, spiritually, to believe in Christ. That is, nothing. Dead means dead (Ephesians 2:1–3).

41 Before We Were Human

Unless your friend is willing to say that he or she was non-living or another species, they have to admit, like embryologists do, that human life begins at conception. While there’s more to the pro-life case than this, it does debunk one of the silliest objections out there.

An Open Letter to Critics of President Trump | The Stream

I was so mad I was not going to vote for the fist time in 40 years until I remembered the supreme court. I, like you, am impressed with his appointments so far and philosophical direction for America. I didn’t like a lot of things presidents have done in my history, but they are the president and I am an American so I prayed, bit my nails and screamed at the tv or newspaper. I pray now that the really crazy people who bully those they disagree with will either ride out the term gracefully or surrender their citizenship and go somewhere else so all of us and they can be at peace. May God continue to bless America and reach the heart of our president at every turn.

The Briefing 01-20-17 - AlbertMohler.com

Since 1981, unless precluded by weather, the event has been on that West front of the steps of the United States Capitol. Some listeners listening carefully may have noted that in those 35 words of the United States Constitution in terms of the oath of office, there are no final words “so help me God.” American tradition has suggested that it was the first President George Washington in 1789 who offered those first words, “so help me God.” There’s actually no contemporaneous evidence that he did, but it is very much clear that in the 20th century, presidents began to use that terminology so regularly that it is now considered, though not in the text of the Constitution, to be official language, so much so that recent Chief Justices have added the words “so help me, God” to the end of the constitutional language. From a Christian worldview perspective, we have to recognize that this can come down to nothing more than ceremonial religion, civil religion as it’s known. But it is also important to recognize that it is an oath that is publicly understood by Americans to be given in the full view of God.

“The traditional tasks of an inaugural—bringing the country together and setting an uplifting and unifying agenda for the future—are even more pressing for president-elect Trump,” said Kruse. “And that, I suspect, is why he’s enlisted a much larger lineup of clergy to speak at the inauguration than his predecessors.
