Pride Poisons Ethnic Harmony

Pride is one of the greatest enemies to ethnic harmony. But the gospel breaks the back of our pride and empowers us to move forward together.

Is Dr. King Coming to Dinner?

In the Civil Rights Era (1950–1968), Martin Luther King, Jr. and others protested the continued injustices. Blacks fought for the right to legal equality with regards to voting, racial segregation, and dehumanizing discrimination. But too often they were met with silence, and even hostility, from evangelical, Reformed, and Bible-believing churches and churchmen who “remained silent behind the anesthetizing security of stained-glass windows,” as King wrote in “Letter From a Birmingham Jail.” Only through tumultuous times of police brutality, riots, hosings, and dog-bitings, was a place at Uncle Sam’s table legally granted to African Americans. But even then, segregation still flourished within American homes.

One More Time? Three Ways to Worship in Repetition

When we look to learn from the experience of believers in other cultures, we find that repeating lyrics does not necessarily involve mindlessness. Indeed, repetition in worship offers certain opportunities for mindfulness that are difficult to access in many of our word-heavy worship songs. Consider these three ways to engage your mind during a repetitive time of worship.

The 25-year research shows where the most unstable areas for Christians have historically been and, in many countries, remain.”

For the Name and Word of God

When Jesus said that he who would be great must be the servant of all (Mark 10:43), he did not mean that a great life serves to make much of small things. He meant a great life pays any price to help others make much of the name and the word of God. John Sailhamer’s unrelenting labors to lead others into the riches of the name and the word of God have borne fruit for eternity.

'I Have A Dream' Speech, In Its Entirety

As we did last year on the eve of a historic presidential inauguration, we now revisit King's celebrated "I Have a Dream" speech, delivered on August 28, 1963 on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

Frank interviews his good friend and author Greg Koukl about his latest book. Biblical Christianity is more than just another private religious view. It’s more than just a personal relationship with God or a source of moral teaching. Christianity is a picture of reality. It explains why the world is the way it is. When the pieces of this puzzle are properly assembled, we see the big picture clearly. Christianity is a true story of how the world began, why the world is the way it is, what role humans play in the drama, and how all the plotlines of the story are resolved in the end. In The Story of Reality, best-selling author and host of Stand to Reason, Gregory Koukl, explains the five words that form the narrative backbone of the Christian story.

Apologetics and Your Kids: The Price of Truth

We have all read the statistics of young people who flee the Faith in which they have been reared soon after hitting college. There is more than one reason for this defection. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, Legacy - Christian Research Institute

Much like the man he was named for, Martin Luther King, Jr., was a reformer and a revolutionary. A minister and civil rights leader whose legacy will reverberate through history long after we’re gone, King’s philosophy and theology were influenced by the black church’s “social gospel,” which sought to alleviate societal problems based on Christian ethics, white Protestant liberalism, and the philosophy of men such as Mahatma Gandhi. King undergirded the civil rights movement, at least in the beginning, with Christian principles of forgiveness, faith, love, and brotherhood. He resented racial segregation and the disrespectful treatment that resulted from it, but he tried to counter the treatment with hope for racial equality.

As Solomon warned, “Of making many books there is no end” (Ecc 12:12). There is no way to read everything, and not everything deserves to be read. I say that in order to confront the notion that anyone, anywhere, can master all that could be read with profit. I read a great deal, and a large portion of my waking hours are devoted to reading.

20
Literal Interpretation and False Assumptions

Many have misconstrued notions of what is actually stated in the Bible. Instead, their knowledge often comes from second-hand source like TV or movies. Hollywood tends to misrepresent reality: spies always meet on park benches, undiagnosed-PTSD military personnel only stop saying “sir” in order to salute, and Christians are science-hating hypocritical snobs with southern drawls. Even ‘news’ networks push stories of sensationalism to bolster ratings rather than create an informed populace. While entertainment serves its purpose, philosophies should be judged by their merits. Those merits should reference their source documents, rather than caricatures presented by others.

No, the “win” for me, and for everyone who struggles with same-sex desires, is a greater love for Christ, and to have a deeper knowledge of the all-sufficiency of his grace. Why Christians Should Support Rehabilitation for the Charleston Church Shooter

There have been several cases of prisoners turning to God when facing execution, such as ax murderer Karla Faye Tucker (executed in 1998) and Crips co-founder Stanley “Tookie” Williams III (executed in 2005). And there are Christian organizations and ministries, such as Prison Fellowship and the Tim Tebow Foundation, that directly minister to inmates on death row. But in general the Christian community in America has largely adopted the modern, truncated notion of rehabilitation to be solely about societal re-integration. The result is that we become dismissive of “jailhouse coversions,” assuming that they must be a ploy since claiming someone has been “rehabiliated” means they are deserving of leniency. We have forgotten what our ancestors knew: that rehabilitation of character is a worthy end in itself, even for those who will never live outside of prison walls.

How Some Churches Accidentally Create Narcissists

Rather than avoiding the topic or turning a blind eye, a good way to address the dysfunction is through honest conversation. Perfection will never be reached on this side of heaven but we can still strive to live honorably and exalt one another above ourselves in the choices we make day to day. We can call out destructive, inexcusable behavior when we see it. We can seek justice for all, not just betterment for one. This requires bravery, character, maturity and emotional competence but it’s a responsibility we have to protect the namesake of Christ’s bride.

Millennial Christians Are Redefining 'Bible Belt' Values

Life is all about good and bad experience Life is all about good and bad experience. It was all good and lovely when i met joelly, she was a good business woman until things become rough for her and her business empire started liquidating. I was a very courageous and hardworking man so i decided to sell my inheritance to assist . We both struggle together and built the business world again. This time around the business was growing from strength to strength. I was surprise one Sunday evening when she came home with her secretary and told me that we cannot continue with this pretense called love. I was shocked and heart broken, i was in a friend, house for three weeks frustrated until i met Fernando my old friend at the supermarket, he directed to me to Dr saka. I contacted saka and he told me that Joelly was been manipulated by some spiritual power and he told me to provide some items which he is going to use to destroy the evil spirit. I never believe in voodoo but i had to give him a trial. To my greatest surprise, Joelly called and started apologizing 2 days after i sent Dr. Saka the email.

If My Words Abide In You

Then in verse 7 instead of using the pair, “If you abide in me and I in you,” Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you.” I think the point of this change is to let us see practically how we let Jesus abide in us, namely, by letting his words abide in us. “If you abide in me, and I abide in you,” is explained partly by, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you.” We let Jesus abide in us, as we let his words abide in us.

The Briefing 01-16-17 - AlbertMohler.com

Finally it’s also interesting in this story to note that no one on either side of the argument expects the law in Florida to be either revised or openly challenged any time soon. Why? Because this particular statute and the moral logic embedded in it, the privileging of the rights of the child to be legitimate, is an overriding concern that no one basically wants to take on politically in the state of Florida or likely elsewhere. That, of course, from a worldview perspective raises a most interesting dimension. There is a moral logic embedded in this law. There is a great deal of understanding concerning the rights of the child as being paramount and the institution of marriage as being fundamental. Put them together and the right of the child to be legitimate and the rights of a husband and a wife to the integrity and sanctity of their marriage overrides virtually everything else.

How Involved Is God in the Details of Your Life?

Joseph had a unique role to play in redemptive history. But God’s intricate involvement in Joseph’s life is not unique to yours. One of the many reasons God gives us a close-up of Joseph’s life is to show us how active he is, how he never leaves us or forsakes us all along the way, in both the good and the evil things we experience (Hebrews 13:5).

What Does It Mean That God Will Glorify Me? And How?

So, when Jesus says — and this is the text that Nicholas asked about — when Jesus says in John 5:44, “How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” I think he means, if you find the praise of other people and the honor of other people and the greatness of other people more satisfying than the greatness of God and the praise of God and the honor that comes from God and the beautification that comes from God, you will be so man-centered that you will not be able to believe on Jesus.

47 Choosing a Church | Reasonable Faith

So, Chris, I think you should look for a local church where you meet with God in meaningful corporate worship each Sunday. That’s the main criterion in choosing a church, more important than good preaching (you don’t go to church primarily to receive instruction). Then find out if there are service opportunities and ways for you to get involved and exercise your spiritual gift. Last of all, determine if the church has a doctrinal confession that permits you to become member. If it has a statement that would require you to confess things you don’t believe in, you may wish to attend that church anyway without becoming officially a member of that denomination or church. But if you can join in good conscience, then as an expression of your solidarity with the local believers, do become a member.

When the 'Enlightened' Left Doesn't Get Its Way, Expect Riots and Death Threats | The Stream

Bullying, belittling and refusal to tolerate a different view of anything has become the political correctness of the politically liberal. I can hardly believe that anyone with half a brain can’t see the hypocrisy of such high-handed dictatorial behavior in the name of peace, equality and tolerance. I am an artist, I am not a fan of many people but I would NEVER deny the right for anyone to be who they are as long as it doesn’t kill anybody or break any laws. You freaks who assume to speak for me as an artist or a woman or not a political partisan not only do not know who or what I believe in or approve of, but your erratic bullying behavior may make me choose to someday treat you as you are treating my fellow Americans who do not agree with you. You are not persuading anybody with your ham-fisted tactics and you are making enemies of people who would defend your right to be idiots to their death. Congratulations on your win.

Are Comfortable Christians Compromisers?

However, my answer is that he should find in Scripture a theology of contentment in comfort, as well as contentment in pain. Yes, yes, yes. He should. And if he hasn’t found it, which it doesn’t sound like he has, he should pursue it, and I will try to give a little guideline here. That is exactly what Paul said in Philippians 4:11–12, “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound.” That would be Noah’s concern: “Can I be okay feeling comfortable?” So go to school here, right? “In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things [both of those] through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:12–13).

Is Jesus Simply a Retelling of the Osiris Mythology? | Cold Case Christianity

Over the past two weeks, I’ve examined the similarities between Jesus, Mithras and Horus . Early mythological characters are sometimes offered by skeptics in an attempt to argue Jesus is nothing more than a re-creation and retelling of the ancient “rising and dying” mythologies embraced by a number of primitive cultures. Movies like Zeitgeist: The Movie and The God Who Wasn’t There , have capitalized on this strategy, highlighting every possible similarity, while ignoring the critical differences. Osiris is mentioned in both of these movies as yet another iteration of the rising and dying Savior preceding the appearance of Jesus. Skeptics claim Osiris and Jesus were identical in a number of important ways. According to these doubters, Osiris was called “Lord of Lords”, “King of Kings”, “God of Gods”, “Resurrection and the Life”, “Good Shepherd”, “Eternity and Everlastingness”, and the god who “made men and women to be ‘born again’.” Osiris’ birth was allegedly announced by three “wise men”; the three stars Mintaka, Anilam, and Alnitak in the belt of Orion. Osiris had a star in the east, Sirius, that signified his birth, and his followers enjoyed a Eucharist ceremony of sorts (in which his flesh was eaten in the form of communion cakes of wheat).
