Christian Publisher Cancels Marriage Book by Pastor Andy Savage After He Admits to Sexually Assaulting Teen

"He turned onto a dirt road and continued to drive. There were trees all around. I could not see the main road anymore, from which he turned. I asked what was back here. He told me they were building a church. I thought, maybe that's what this was about, maybe he has some secret to tell me, like perhaps he was moving to another church. We reached a dead end and he turned the truck around before putting it in park. We were stopped, and he turned the headlights off," Jules wrote. That was when he asked her to perform oral sex on him.

Why the Gospels Were Written Much Earlier than We Thought - A Clear Lens

In his book Cold Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace writes, “As a skeptic, I believed that the Gospels were penned in the second century and were similarly worthless. If they were written that late, they were not eyewitness accounts.”  However, as J. Warner Wallace came to learn (as well as I during my own investigation), …

Why Apologetics Won't Work

If apologetics is so great and its arguments compelling, why isn’t everyone convinced of Christianity? This is where the doctrine of election debate between Calvinists and Arminians normally comes in, but I think both sides are overlooking a simpler and self-evident truth of human nature – one they can both agree on. People aren’t robots. Each of us view new truth claims through a unique lens formed by our conditioning, cares, and community.

Moody Bible President and COO Both Resign, Provost Retires

Many academic institutions have a residence on campus for their president. [MBI] does not. Our board of trustees wanted [Nyquist] to live in close proximity to campus; however, our campus is located in some of the most expensive real estate in Chicago, so the board made it possible for [him] to live across from [MBI] with an interest-only loan at the market rate of 4 percent. [Nyquist] is therefore able to host students and student groups, helping him foster positive relationships with the student body, and generally be available for [MBI] business, which was the board’s desire. The terms of the loan are fully disclosed on [MBI’s] federal disclosure forms.

Please stop saying 'Faith is belief without evidence'

Fair enough. If you, the atheist, really do not have beliefs about God (broadly construed as the greatest conceivable being with all perfection who exists outside of and has created the universe) and his existence, then so be it. I wasn’t trying to shift the burden of proof or otherwise trick anyone. I really just think a dialogue where both sides lay out the case for their respective views is far more fruitful.

Do You Love Jesus, But Not the Church?

And how many today reject Jesus’s offer “Come to me!” because the church looks so . . . offensive! We, the church, are “full of sinners and hypocrites!” Indeed. And those who say, “God, yes; Christians, no!” have a point, but God makes another: You do not understand the gospel call. To come to Christ exalted, one cannot bypass the offense — his church unglorified. Although a person can initially come to God without the church, no one can stay with God while rejecting the church. The former reflects the glory of Christ alone; the latter is a rejection of the offense.

Should We Be Moral Relativists?

Two mutually contradicting statements cannot be true within the same context, at the same time and for all people. So objective and relative moral values cannot both be true for they contradict each other. The presence of objective moral values and the case for an immoral world portrays that moral relativism exists by ignoring or suppressing the truth of objective moral values. Therefore, we should not be moral relativists.

Ambiguity, Context, and Biblical Interpretation

The SAT is a standardized test that many students have to take.  One type of question in the reading section is called a vocabulary in context question.  These questions will ask the reader what a particular word in the passage “most nearly” means and it will provide four different answers to choose from.  The tricky thing about these types of questions is that, often times, all four options are legitimate definitions of the word in question.  To know which meaning of the word is being used in the passage, the reader has to read the context that the word is in, usually by reading a few lines or even an entire paragraph of the passage.  Only by looking at the context can the reader figure out which of the answer choices provides the correct meaning of the word in that passage.  Context is important in everyday life too.  If you walk into a room and hear me say “I killed that guy” to a friend, that may sound like I committed a crime.  However, if you heard the whole context, you would know that I’m talking about a video game I played earlier.  By “kill” I didn’t mean “murder,” I meant that I took out the avatar that he was controlling.

Atheists Want a World Without Christianity. Here’s How It Would Look - ChristianWeek

Our verdict was, that the N. was fully justified in going to war with the S.; … after your victories in Kentucky & Tennessee, [you ought] to have made peace & agreed to a divorce. How curious it is that you all seem to believe that you can annex the South; … I would then run the risk of your seizing on Canada (I wish with all my heart it was an independent country) & declaring war against us. But slavery seems to me to grow a more hopeless curse. … This war of yours, however it may end, is a fearful evil to the whole world; & its evil effect will, I must think, be felt for years.— I can see already it has produced wide spread feeling in favour of aristocracy & Monarchism: no one in England will speak for years in favour of the people governing themselves.

There are probably many more things we shouldn’t say to our spouses. And there are probably some specific to your marriage that you can think of. Why Should Christians Care About Logic?

We are made in the image of God as both moral and rational beings. In the same way that we should strive to emulate God’s goodness, we should also strive to emulate his rationality. Logic not only helps us to attain a more robust understanding of the nature of God, but it is essential for fulfilling our commands to share the gospel and have a ready defense of the hope within us. Far from being an opposing force, logic is at the core of the Christian faith. Throughout the Old and New Testament, the authors (and even Jesus himself) make claims of exclusivity, identity and ontological reality; all of which are meaningless without first granting the fundamental laws of logic. Proper exegesis, historical data, every classical argument for the existence of God, every theological position you take, and even the Gospel message itself are all -in one way or another- dependent on these fundamental laws being true. Even the very nature and existence of God must be described in terms of these fundamental laws. If you take away the principle of identity, the identity and deity of Christ follows suit.

How to care about social justice (without losing the gospel) – Russell Moore – Southern Equip

We do not, though, counteract legalism in the realm of personal morality with an antinomianism. And we do not react to the persistent “social gospels” (of both Left and Right) by pretending that Jesus does not call his churches to act on behalf of the poor, the sojourner, the fatherless, the vulnerable, the hungry, the sex-trafficked, the unborn. We act in the framework of the gospel, never apart from it, either in verbal proclamation or in active demonstration.

Why Shouldn't We Trust the Non-Canonical "Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit"? | Cold Case Christianity

How Does It Corroborate the Life of Jesus? The text diverges from Christian orthodoxy in many ways, but also refers to many points of agreement. The God described in The Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit is triune, but the Spirit is described as a “mother”. Interestingly, this member of the triune godhead is also a virgin. The member of the Godhead who is described as the “Son” is also described as the “Christ”. Jesus is only mentioned in the text in three places, but He is described as the “Son of God” and the “living one” who “possesses the life, and who came and crucified that which is in the law”.
