Christian Publisher Cancels Marriage Book by Pastor Andy Savage After He Admits to Sexually Assaulting Teen

"He turned onto a dirt road and continued to drive. There were trees all around. I could not see the main road anymore, from which he turned. I asked what was back here. He told me they were building a church. I thought, maybe that's what this was about, maybe he has some secret to tell me, like perhaps he was moving to another church. We reached a dead end and he turned the truck around before putting it in park. We were stopped, and he turned the headlights off," Jules wrote. That was when he asked her to perform oral sex on him.

Why the Gospels Were Written Much Earlier than We Thought - A Clear Lens

In his book Cold Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace writes, “As a skeptic, I believed that the Gospels were penned in the second century and were similarly worthless. If they were written that late, they were not eyewitness accounts.”  However, as J. Warner Wallace came to learn (as well as I during my own investigation), …

Why Should Christians Care About Logic?

We are made in the image of God as both moral and rational beings. In the same way that we should strive to emulate God’s goodness, we should also strive to emulate his rationality. Logic not only helps us to attain a more robust understanding of the nature of God, but it is essential for fulfilling our commands to share the gospel and have a ready defense of the hope within us. Far from being an opposing force, logic is at the core of the Christian faith. Throughout the Old and New Testament, the authors (and even Jesus himself) make claims of exclusivity, identity and ontological reality; all of which are meaningless without first granting the fundamental laws of logic. Proper exegesis, historical data, every classical argument for the existence of God, every theological position you take, and even the Gospel message itself are all -in one way or another- dependent on these fundamental laws being true. Even the very nature and existence of God must be described in terms of these fundamental laws. If you take away the principle of identity, the identity and deity of Christ follows suit.

Please stop saying 'Faith is belief without evidence'

Fair enough. If you, the atheist, really do not have beliefs about God (broadly construed as the greatest conceivable being with all perfection who exists outside of and has created the universe) and his existence, then so be it. I wasn’t trying to shift the burden of proof or otherwise trick anyone. I really just think a dialogue where both sides lay out the case for their respective views is far more fruitful.

Do You Love Jesus, But Not the Church?

And how many today reject Jesus’s offer “Come to me!” because the church looks so . . . offensive! We, the church, are “full of sinners and hypocrites!” Indeed. And those who say, “God, yes; Christians, no!” have a point, but God makes another: You do not understand the gospel call. To come to Christ exalted, one cannot bypass the offense — his church unglorified. Although a person can initially come to God without the church, no one can stay with God while rejecting the church. The former reflects the glory of Christ alone; the latter is a rejection of the offense.

Why Apologetics Won't Work

If apologetics is so great and its arguments compelling, why isn’t everyone convinced of Christianity? This is where the doctrine of election debate between Calvinists and Arminians normally comes in, but I think both sides are overlooking a simpler and self-evident truth of human nature – one they can both agree on. People aren’t robots. Each of us view new truth claims through a unique lens formed by our conditioning, cares, and community.

16
Isn't the Bible Full of Errors?

Virtually every area of apologetics stands or falls on the Bible. We claim Jesus is the only way because he made that clear in the Bible. We also know that God will be fair to those who've never heard the gospel because of his character revealed in the Bible. Without a reliable record of God's workings in history our faith is meaningless.

"RTB is to be commended for so intentionally incorporating these principles (and more) into the AMP Conference. For the sake of the next generation, we need a continued renewal of apologetics in the church. But we can’t do apologetics the way we have always done it in the past. My hat is off to RTB, and I hope this is merely a sign of more good things to come from them and the church as a whole."

Should We Be Moral Relativists?

Two mutually contradicting statements cannot be true within the same context, at the same time and for all people. So objective and relative moral values cannot both be true for they contradict each other. The presence of objective moral values and the case for an immoral world portrays that moral relativism exists by ignoring or suppressing the truth of objective moral values. Therefore, we should not be moral relativists.

Yes Christian, You Need the Church

It happens to be one of the more popular traps along the journey of faith—the idea that somewhere along the path of righteousness we somehow outgrow our need for the church. Perhaps you’ve met someone who was too busy for the church.  Maybe you’ve encouraged someone who thought they were too important for the church.  What was once the central aspect of their life has now turned into an occasional hobby.  We all need a healthy reminder from time-to-time that we need the church in all seasons and successes of life.

To Love With Our Minds

As a child I have memorised Matthew 22:37 – ‘ Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’  – but I didn’t really understand the last bit completely until I read Moreland’s book. To understand the concept of love in terms of an emotion or an action is easy but how do you love with your mind? Moreland explains how the God of the Bible is a God of reason as well as of revelation, that He is perfect in knowledge, the only wise God and that He has revealed Himself in the Scriptures in “understandable, true propositions.” The Old Testament repeatedly teaches us the importance of wisdom and shows us that God created our minds to be apt for gaining knowledge and wisdom, so when we are ignorant, we are definitely not mirroring God’s character.

5 Reasons You Should Get Apologetics Training in 2018

1. Apologetics Will Help You Serve the Church. As my friend Tom Gilson wrote in his article for A New Kind of Apologist, one key feature of apologetics is to be a servant for the church. There is a huge need for some Christians in the church to have formal training on how to best answer some of the toughest questions about God, the Bible, evil and more. I often encourage my Biola M.A. students to offer to serve their pastor by doing research for sermons, being available to counsel young people with difficult questions, and being willing to offer apologetics classes for people in the church. The first reason to get formal apologetics training is to better serve the local church. Just as every church needs a teaching pastor, worship leader, and children’s director, every church needs a trained apologist …

Tips for Apologetic Conversations

Having a conversation with someone who strongly disagrees with you is difficult. I have been privileged to do mission work on five continents, yet some of the most difficult conversations have been right here at home in America. Over the years I have learned some biblical guidelines that have helped me speak with skeptics about Christian faith. I have rolled together ten of those tips in the included video, but I want to offer a few additional details through this blog post on the first five points.

The Two Primary Aims of Apologetics | HeadHeartHand Blog

Speaking as a layman, the study of apologetics was the doorway to systematic theology. Ultimately, this lead me to have a Reformed understanding of soteriology. I am still very “connected” with apologetic study, various ministries specializing in it, and its practical application. As a believer, it has been an encouraging tool for both my internal understanding of the faith, as well as an equipping discipline that has made sharing the faith with others much more natural and effective than it ever was before.

Frank Turek: There can't be shadows without sunshine

We could put it this way: The shadows prove the sunshine. There can be sunshine without shadows, but there can’t be shadows without sunshine. In other words, there can be good without evil, but there can’t be evil without good; and there can’t be objective good without God. So evil may show there’s a devil out there, but it can’t disprove God. Evil actually boomerangs back to show that God exists.
